PROFOUND DANCE SHOW AIMS TO UNITE IN A TIME OF DIVISION!

Liverpool is set to host a profound dance show this September, as IRIE! dance theatre presents the global premiere of its powerful new production, KEHÃ SEEBII – For Those Left Behind.
Organised by The Black-E, this landmark performance is in memory of the New Cross house fire of 1981 that tragically killed 13 young black people. The stunning yet poignant dance showcase is free to attend and is taking place at The Black-E, Liverpool, on both Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September, as part of their African Routes Festival this month.
KEHÃ SEEBII is motivated by the tragic loss of lives in the New Cross Fire of 1981, an event that left deep scars across Britain’s African-Caribbean communities. The blaze at a house party killed 13 young black people aged between 14 and 22, with one survivor killing himself two years later, and whilst nobody has been charged — the event has been subject to scandal and inquests.
Through dance, storytelling and ritual, IRIE! dance theatre creates a moving and profound space for reflection, remembrance and healing. This captivating and moving performance aims to not only pay homage to this tragic incident, but also encourage people from Liverpool to unite and lead with compassion and empathy in a time of great division.

The powerful production weaves together memory and movement, inviting audiences to engage with a performance that is both culturally significant and emotionally resonant. It is not only a work of art but also an act of commemoration — honouring those lost, while offering strength to those left behind.
The Saturday 27th September performance at The Black-E in Liverpool’s Chinatown is taking place at 8pm, with doors opening at 6.30pm, and the Sunday 28th performance slightly earlier at 7.30pm. The showcase is completely free to attend, however donations are gratefully accepted to support the Black-E’s work supporting cultural and creative events in the city.

This special showcase is the headline performance of African Routes 2025, a landmark programme celebrating African and diasporic heritage. To witness IRIE! dance theatre in Liverpool is a rare opportunity — and one not to be missed. With its unique blend of Caribbean dance forms, contemporary choreography and cultural storytelling, KEHÃ SEEBII promises to be an unforgettable evening of artistry and connection.
