Jacqui explains: “My journey with ME started in 2016 when I was in my first year of university at LJMU studying English Literature. I began to feel generally unwell and became unsteady when I was walking. After a few months of seeing the doctor I was diagnosed with ME. I had to start using a manual wheelchair with my husband pushing me everywhere. Quite quickly I realised that if I wanted my independence then an electric wheelchair would be the best option.”
She continues: “The ME was a terrible time in my life. Some days I was sleeping 20 hours a day and had a day bed in the lounge so that I didn’t feel cut off from everything like I would have been in the bedroom for all those hours. I didn’t mind using my wheelchair as it meant I could go to university and get on the train and do life as I wanted. But it was tough — we even had to move house for wheelchair accessibility.”

I completed my degree and was awarded a 2:1 in English Literature. Even today I still feel the effects of ME. I can get tired easily and sometimes my legs feel heavy and like they don’t want to work, but I rest and usually feel better after that. It’s been a long journey but the business is thriving and I’m really proud!”
