Joe, who has built an impressive career at well-known venues including Crown Plaza, Mowgli and Pina Loca, is bringing an exciting new food concept to the town. The new takeaway offers customers a fresh and affordable dining experience centred around customisable comfort food packed with bold flavours.

Diners begin by choosing their base from a Mac & Cheese Box, Chunky Chips or a Swiss Baguette before selecting from a range of inventive toppings. Options include the smoky Hamilton Pitmaster, the rich and flavourful Birkenhead Birria, the aromatic Square Bhuna, the vegetarian Hot Homey Halloumi and the hearty Chilli Sin Carne.

For those with a bigger appetite, Off The Square’s popular Munch Boxes combine Salt & Pepper Chips, a Whole Beef Baguette, Mac & Cheese, slaw and dipping pots of beef consommé and cheese sauce. Open Monday to Friday from 11am until 7.30pm, the takeaway is available for both collection and delivery via Just Eat. Many of the dishes also have a gluten free option.

For Joe, however, the business represents much more than just a new venture. After years spent working long hours in busy restaurant and hotel kitchens, owning his own takeaway has given him the opportunity to create a better work-life balance and spend more time with his wife and two daughters.

Speaking about his new chapter, Joe said: “I feel incredibly proud to finally have my own business. It’s something I’ve worked towards for a long time. After many years in demanding kitchens, having Off The Square allows me to do what I love while also spending more quality time with my wife and our two girls.”
He continued: “Miriam who ran Off The Square as a sandwich shop for 17 years had a great following. It’s a bit daunting but also exciting to be bringing something different o the town. The support we’ve had from the people of Birkenhead has been amazing, and it’s great to see customers enjoying something a little different’ feedback. It’s been especially a big hit with the office workers.”
