A new health-focused café has opened its doors in New Brighton, bringing a fresh concept to the seaside town that many locals say has been “crying out for” healthier food options. Nuda, located at 215 Seabank Road, beside Sola Beauty on Cambridge Road, is the first dedicated açaí café in the area and is already proving a hit with residents.

The new venture is open Tuesday-Friday from 7.30am-3pm and Saturday-Sunday 8am-3pm — available to enjoy in their quaint little courtyard or for collection, as well as for events, weddings and fitness clubs. Nuda specialises in customisable açaí bowls, allowing customers to create their own combinations from hundreds of possible options — combining super healthy food with a little bit of naughtiness.

People can choose from a granola base, three fruits including banana, strawberry, blueberries, raspberry and kiwi, as well as two crunchy toppings such as Biscoff, coconut flakes, cacao, chia seeds and Kinder pieces. A range of indulgent sauces, including Nutella, Biscoff, pistachio, white chocolate, Kinder and peanut butter, adds the finishing touch.

An açaí bowl is a Brazilian dish made from pureed açaí berries and topped with fruits, granola, and other nutritious ingredients. Traditionally, the dish was consumed by indigenous communities and later became popular along Brazilian beaches and in cities like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Nuda’s açaí bowls are organic from Amazonian farmers and Fair Trade — more expensive but premium quality and ethical!

But Nuda is more than just a destination for incredible açaí bowls! The café also serves a selection of pastries and baked goods, including Biscoff cubes, cruffins, cinnamon buns and pain au chocolat. The treats are supplied by the same baker behind popular Liverpool café Lunko By The Lane, bringing what owners describe as “a slice of Lark Lane” to Seabank Road.

Customers can also enjoy smoothies, coolers, Brazilian coffee blend, ceremonial grade matcha from Japan and a variety of iced lattes — with nothing around that offers their unique blend of healthy food and drink that’s also a tiny bit naughty. Nuda was founded by Kris Leigh and his partner Leanne Jones, who only launched the business idea three months ago yet have enjoyed a meteoric rise to success.

Leanne explains: “We started because of my love for açaí — I was constantly dragging Kris to places for them! For over a year we said we should start a business making them ourselves then in March we just said let’s do it and here we are today! We started supplying them to like-minded friends and demand quickly exceeded expectations. People quickly became regular customers and things have progressed rapidly!”

Their popularity continued to grow after a successful appearance at New Brighton Farmers’ Market, where they sold out within just a couple of hours. The hype and growing social media following led Sola Beauty to offer the couple space at the back of its beauty hub on Seabank Road, allowing them to turn their online success into a permanent café.
Kris said: “It’s been a wild three months! We never imagined our açaí bowls would take off to this extent! I think it represents a growing demand for healthier options that are fun, alternative and delicious. We’ve already developed a strong following and lots of regulars — we’re now looking forward to sharing our concept with even more people now that we have our own premises.”

Nuda officially celebrated its opening with a launch event on Thursday 18th June, attracting influencers, local supporters and former footballer John Barnes. The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, with many residents welcoming the arrival of a healthier alternative in an area where such options have previously been limited.
