There are plenty of theatres to choose from in Liverpool but only a handful in Wirral. If you’ve not yet been to The Gladstone Theatre you simply must — it’s a grand theatre with loads of character in the heart of the picturesque Port Sunlight village and it has a certain magic about it. There’s a diverse range of music, theatre and live entertainment and Aladdin is a great reason to visit.

Following the record breaking production of Cinderella, Dreamworld Entertainments have brought their own unique adaptation of Aladdin to The Gladstone Theatre and it’s very special indeed! With all the classic pantomime traditions (he’s behind yoooou, oh no it isn’t etc.) blended with modern twists and topics, it’s sharp, quick witted and spectacular!

This production features a supremely talented cast of television, theatre and music stars including Ryan Towart (Cbeebies), Darren John Langford (Emmerdale & Hollyoaks), Michael Alan Bailey, Conor Barrie, Tom Hope, Maria Ellinas (X Factor) and Ellie Carroll. The chemistry between the cast is electric and they clearly have fun together on stage.

From the off, it was a rip roaring, side splitting showcase with laugh out loud entertainment for both the children and the adults. At many points we had tears of laughter with some of the on stage shenanigans, even more so during the improvisation moments such as getting the music wrong, Widow Twankey’s wig coming off and Aladdin getting punched in the face a bit too hard.

The dance routines were sensational and the singing was fantastic — with some powerful and spine tingling moments. Ryan Towart as Widow Twankey was an absolute hoot — with clever innuendoes for the adults, quite outrageous at times, and great audience interaction. Such a funny entertainer! Similarly, Michael Allen Bailey (Wishee Washee) was so good with the children and full of wonderfully timed jokes.

What made this even more magical for us is that the lovely girls with us (Phoebe and Tilly, both 7) got to meet Aladdin (Tim Hope) and Princess Jasmine (Maria Ellinas) after the show. They were so good with the girls and it really made their night! Aladdin at The Gladstone Theatre is running until 31st December 2019 and there are still some tickets left if you’re after something magical this festive season. Highly recommended!
