HUGE GIG ALERT: A GUY CALLED GERALD & THE JUNGLE DRUMMER!

Wirral’s events promoters, Events 471, have announced another huge gig as part of their exciting summer/autumn programme! On Friday 5th September, Birkenhead’s Future Yard will host a landmark musical event featuring iconic artists A Guy Called Gerald and The Jungle Drummer!

The audience is in for a treat as the legendary artists are set to deliver an epic live performance that marks a celebration of three decades since the genre‑defining Black Secret Technology album. This collaboration, which has already rocked stages at Glastonbury, London’s Jazz Café, We Out Here Festival and Bristol’s Strange Brew, promises to re‑ignite club culture on another level!
Born Gerald Simpson in Moss Side, Manchester (1967), A Guy Called Gerald became one of the most influential UK electronic artists. As an early member of 808 State, he worked on their debut LP Newbuild (1988) and the iconic single “Pacific State”. However, Gerald gained solo fame with the acid house immortal “Voodoo Ray”, the first acid house track made in the UK, reaching No. 12 in the charts.
In the early ’90s, he founded his own label, Juice Box Records, releasing groundbreaking tracks that were blueprints for jungle and drum & bass. Albums such as 28 Gun Bad Boy (1993) and Black Secret Technology (1995) are frequently cited as among the greatest in jungle history.
The Jungle Drummer is a powerhouse percussionist in the global drum & bass, jungle, dubstep and garage scenes. His credits span heavyweight labels like Metalheadz, Ninja Tune and Hospital Records, with collaborations alongside Shy FX, High Contrast and Beardyman. Known for delivering exuberant, beat-packed live sets, his synergy with Gerald has been praised for bringing a raw energy seldom heard in electronic music.
Following sell‑out shows in London and Bristol — Strange Brew’s performance sold out quickly after strong early picks — the Future Yard show is set to be another pivotal night. Whether you’re a die‑hard jungle veteran, a live electronica aficionado or just curious about where electronic music began and where it’s heading, this is one you definitely shouldn’t miss!

A Guy Called Gerald and The Jungle Drummer are coming to Future Yard in Birkenhead on Friday 5th September from 7pm for a very special gig in celebration of three decades since the genre‑defining Black Secret Technology album. Tickets start from just £25 plus booking fee.
