INTERNATIONAL PHYSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL COMING TO LIVERPOOL!
We recently attended the launch event for this year’s International Physical Theatre Festival, or Physical Fest 2019, that will be hosted by Unity Theatre and The Capstone Theatre from 10th — 15th June. If you’re looking for something a bit different to experience in the city, then check out this amazing festival featuring a supremely talented line up!

The 6 day celebration showcases a rich variety of local, national and international contemporary physical artists, with a focus on female artists and incredible international work that’s being shown in Liverpool for the first time. Established in 2004 and supported by The Arts Council and Liverpool City Council, it’s the only festival of its kind in Europe and offers a diverse range of performances from circus to juggling to dance.

Presented by Tmesis Theatre, the festival starts with a powerful performance of ‘I Cried Because I Had No Shoes Until…’ by Japanese artist Izumi Ashizawa at Unity Theatre at 7.30pm on Tuesday 11th June. This is followed by a choose-your-own-adventure interactive murder mystery at 9pm courtesy of Butt Kapinski.

On Wednesday 12th June, there’s a clay acrobatics performance called ‘Fang’ — the UK premiere being shown at The Capstone Theatre at 7.30pm. On Thursday 13th June, back at the Unity Theatre, there’s a conference at 11am about female representation in the arts. This is followed by ‘Kill A Witch Or Die Trying’ then another showing of Butt Kapinski.

On the Friday there’s a sequence of ‘The Ten Inch Heels’ performances from 5.30pm at Unity Theatre, followed by ‘Dive’ at 7.30pm — 3 shows of Greek, Spanish and Finnish mime and clown performances. Saturday consists of an outdoor spectacle at The Royal Albert Dock and Open Eye Gallery from 14 female performers of Tmesis, followed by Narky Sizzle & The Coconuts at 2pm at Unity Theatre and ‘Smashed’ (Gandini juggling) at 7.30pm.

With enthralling performances, talks and various workshops throughout the festival, where you can learn different performing arts techniques, there’ll be something for everyone at this thoroughly exciting alternative festival!
