LOCAL MECHANIC ‘BRAVES THE SHAVE’ FOR MACMILLAN CANCER CHARITY!

Carl Reed, owner of Carl’s Garage in Birkenhead, took a bold and heartfelt step on Saturday 28th March by hosting a “Brave the Shave” charity event in support of Macmillan Cancer Support. The incredible event, held at The Beehive pub in Tranmere, has so far raised over £1,500 in total — with donations still possible.

A well-established and respected figure in the local community, Carl has built his reputation not only through years of hard work but also through his honest and transparent approach to pricing — something his loyal customers greatly value.
Based on Price Street, Carl now operates from the largest premises of his career as a garage owner, a milestone that reflects his growth, dedication, and strong standing within the community. Carl’s Garage has become a trusted name locally, known for reliability, fairness, and genuine customer care.

Outside of work, Carl is just as well known for his signature rockabilly quiff — earning him a reputation among friends, family, and customers alike as something of a silver fox. However, in honour of the cause, Carl swapped his iconic look for something far more meaningful, dyeing his hair green before bravely shaving it off.
Motivated by personal experiences, having seen friends and family face cancer first-hand, Carl felt it was time to give back and make a positive difference. The event brought together customers, friends, and locals alike, many of whom joined in the shave to show solidarity and help raise funds.

Held at The Beehive pub in Tranmere, kindly hosted by landlady Angie, the evening was filled with energy and community spirit. Guests enjoyed live music, a DJ, and entertainment hosted by Carl’s good friend Micky, who kept the atmosphere lively throughout the night. The shaving itself was carried out by Colin’s Barbers — Carl’s own barber — adding a personal touch to the occasion.

While the final total is still being counted, with the donation link remaining open, the event itself has already raised over £1,500 through everyone involved — a testament to the generosity and support of the local community. Carl’s Brave the Shave event stands as a powerful example of coming together for a cause that touches so many lives.
