MUSICIANS UNITE TO SUPPORT NEW BRIGHTON’S MUSIC SCENE!

This weekend, some of the region’s finest artists and bands unite to support one of its most important creative champions — Dan Davies. The event, titled “Save New Brighton Concert”, will take place over two days — Friday 25th and Saturday 26th July — at Oakland Gallery on Victoria Road, a cultural hub that has served as an art gallery and events space for the past seven years.

Dan Davies, the visionary behind New Brighton’s Victoria Quarter regeneration, has spent years transforming the area into a haven for artists, musicians and creatives. Through his dedication, street art now colours the town, music venues offer stages to local talent and creatives have spaces to work, exhibit and grow.

The efforts of Dan Davies and Rockpoint Leisure have been instrumental in nurturing a grassroots scene that gave rise to bands like The Mysterines, Headfeeder, Ambedo Blue and The Dream Machine — all of whom found their footing thanks to the supportive infrastructure Dan helped build.

Now, however, Dan is facing severe financial hardship after investing heavily in New Brighton’s creative ecosystem with little support from local authorities. As a result, he is being forced to auction off properties — including Oakland Gallery itself.

In response, the local music community is coming together for a powerful act of solidarity: a weekend of live performances to raise awareness and send a clear message — keep New Brighton independent and creative. Masterminded by Robert Rundle and Dean Saunders, the line-up for the weekend includes a wide array of local talent:

Friday 25th July: From 6pm

  • Beatnik Hurricane
  • Paul Naz
  • The Shells
  • Kin Kachow
  • Jolo

Saturday 26th July: From 1pm

  • White Knuckles
  • Knowones
  • Indigo Child
  • Hyton Minstrel
  • Spiral
  • Moon Rivers
  • Emma Charnley
  • Cal Ruddy
  • Plus DJs and more acts to be announced.

Entry is just £10 on the door, making it accessible to all who want to show their support for Dan and Oakland. More than just a gig, this weekend is a statement — a declaration that New Brighton’s creative heartbeat will not be silenced. It’s about honouring a man who gave so much to his community and about preserving a space that allowed countless artists and musicians to thrive.

The event is backed by the #SaveOurVenues movement, which seeks to protect independent music and arts spaces across the UK. As property values rise and cultural spaces disappear, events like this remind us why these places matter — and why they’re worth fighting for.

So whether you’re a music lover, an artist, or someone who believes in the power of independent culture, this weekend is your chance to stand with New Brighton and help keep its creative spirit alive. Be there. Support local. Keep it independent.
