From 12th-24th December 2025, Liverpool theatre-goers were treated to the incredible production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, in what was a triumph for local theatre. GINIFICENT’s huge £240,000 production did not disappoint — a magical showcase and a feast for the senses!
GINIFICENT’s A Christmas Carol returned to St. George’s Hall for its 23rd year, albeit for the first time in The Great Hall — steeped in grandeur and the ideal setting for such an atmospheric production. In their signature ‘true to the book’ authentic style, GINIFICENT’s production captured audiences with compelling storytelling and immersive ‘in the round’ set up.
With a cast of 14 talented performers, including four musicians creating a live cinematic soundscape, the audiences were transported back into the very heart of Victorian London’s most famous ghost story. Embracing the darker origins of Dickens’ tale, A Christmas Carol was an eerie psychological thriller that delved deep into the psyche of Ebenezer Scrooge and his regret for his miserly life.
Ken McConnell’s performance as Scrooge was captivating — with bone-chilling confrontations, supernatural surprises lurking in the shadows and enthralling performances from the rest of the cast. Meanwhile, narrator Liam Scott was the great orator who pulled the strings and told the tale with expert delivery and charisma.
As many 5 star reviews have attested to, GINIFICENT’s A Christmas Carol was indeed a triumph for Liverpool’s theatre scene and a dark, atmospheric and truly thrilling production that kept the audience captivated and mesmerised throughout.
