The charity, which launched in 2025, has already supported hundreds of men across the region by creating safe, welcoming spaces where they can connect, talk and improve their wellbeing. Now, thanks to funding, the organisation says there is room for more participants to take part in its weekly sessions.

At the heart of the charity’s offering is its popular Football Therapy programme, held every Monday and Thursday. These relaxed, friendly matches give men the chance to enjoy sport while building connections with others. There are currently free spaces available for the Thursday night session, which runs from 9pm to 10pm.

For those who prefer a more conversational setting, the charity also hosts The Listening Space groups every Tuesday evening from 6:30pm to 8pm at The Sandbrook Centre in Moreton. These informal sessions provide a non-judgemental environment where men can open up, share experiences and support one another. Attendees can expect a warm welcome, along with tea, coffee, snacks and games. The charity also hosts free monthly walk and talk groups.

Midweek, participants can boost both their physical and mental wellbeing at a free Wednesday boot camp, delivered by a personal trainer at Wirral Strength & Fitness. The circuit-based session begins at 7:30pm and is suitable for a range of fitness levels. The charity recognises that physical and mental wellbeing have a close relationship.

Mersey Mind Project was founded with a clear mission: to help men feel less alone and more able to talk about their mental health. Through a combination of sport, fitness and peer support, the charity has already seen powerful success stories emerge, with many participants reporting improved confidence, stronger friendships and better overall wellbeing.

Co-Founder Chris Guy said: “The sessions are open to any man who might benefit, regardless of background or experience. You don’t have to be sporty or struggling to come along — it’s about connection, getting out of the house and knowing you’re not on your own. We’ve built a real brotherhood — a growing community of men and a support network that can be a real lifeline in times of need.”
He continued: “Men’s mental health is talked about a lot more thankfully but it’s still the case that most suicides are male. Through free sport, activities and peer support, we offer men a safe space to get out and connect with others. We have some exciting things coming up too, such as a big charity match at Prenton Park and competing in the Mental Health World Cup at Goodison Park.”
