We recently visited to sample the new summer menu and were treated to a superb showcase of what Queens does best. Designed around fresh seasonal ingredients and uncomplicated, expertly prepared dishes, the menu celebrates quality produce without unnecessary fuss and in true Queens style, refined and very much about quality over quantity.

We began by sharing a selection of starters, each beautifully presented and packed with flavour. Every dish demonstrated the kitchen’s confidence in letting quality ingredients shine, balancing creativity with classic bistro influences. Rabbit brochettes, bitter leaf salad, bordelaise and Beetroot cured sea trout, cucumber, dill buttermilk were our particular favourites.

For the main course, we sampled several of the new dishes, each cooked with precision and presented with understated elegance. We enjoyed a range of mains including: Butternut squash gnocchi, brown butter, caper crisps; Duck breast, celeriac purée, grilled chicory, kale, red wine jus; 8oz Sirloin steak, chimichurri, frites. Queens certainly looks and tastes like a fine dining experience — with stunning presentation and exquisite dishes — whilst remaining laid back and informal.

Accompanying our meal was a superb bottle of Malbec, selected from the restaurant’s extensive wine list. Wine is very much at the heart of the Queens experience, with every bottle supplied by its sister business, R&H Fine Wines, conveniently located next door. The carefully curated selection perfectly complements the menu, and the knowledgeable team are always happy to recommend the ideal pairing for your meal.

Of course, no visit would be complete without dessert, and the sweet course rounded off the evening perfectly. Rich, indulgent and beautifully balanced, the desserts provided the ideal finale to an exceptional dining experience. With a Bulleit 95 Rye whiskey to finish our incredible Friday evening, it was one of the most enjoyable restaurant visits during my eight years of running La Vida Liverpool.
