Liverpool comedy icon Stan Boardman is proving age is just a number as he gears up for a huge year of live performances — including three highly anticipated shows at Hot Water Comedy Club at Blackstock Market. The legendary funnyman, now aged 88, says he has absolutely no intention of slowing down and is looking forward to entertaining crowds across the country throughout 2026.
Stan’s special afternoon performances at Hot Water Comedy Club will take place on Sunday 14th June, Sunday 13th September and Sunday 13th December, giving Liverpool audiences three chances to see one of the city’s most celebrated entertainers live on stage. And according to Stan himself, fans can expect fresh material, topical humour and plenty of audience interaction.
“I’ve been so busy and looking forward to this year,” he said. “I’ve got the three Hot Water Comedy Club shows as well as a gig in Cardiff, a golf tournament gig in Southport and charity shows too. My new material will be very relevant and topical at the Hot Water Comedy Club shows and there’ll be lots of audience interaction. I’m constantly writing new material and staying fresh.”

For Stan, performing there feels like coming home. “It’s great to be performing at Hot Water Comedy Club in Blackstock Market because it’s a top drawer venue and it’s within a mile from where I was born and raised in North Liverpool,” said Stan. “It’s brilliant to see what the guys there have been doing and attracting comedians from all over the world. There’s lots of young talent there, so I’ve got to keep up with them.”
Born and raised in Liverpool, Stan’s rise to comedy fame began from humble beginnings. Growing up in a council house during and after the war, he initially had little direction in life and was on the dole for a while. After trying stand-up comedy at small local clubs, things quickly began to change.
His first paid gig was for £10 and launched a career spanning more than five decades, making Stan one of the best-known comedians to ever emerge from Liverpool. Over the years he has become famous for his sharp wit, quick-fire delivery and unmistakable stage presence, entertaining audiences across Britain and beyond.
Today, he’s still going strong and showing no signs of slowing down. “I don’t feel almost 90 — I think they must have got my birth certificate mixed up,” he jokes. “I still keep active, go jogging and kick a ball about. My wife Viv is the secret actually. She keeps me healthy and happy. She’s been a constant source of support over the decades and marrying her is my finest achievement in life, more than anything in my career.”
He also says becoming a father to twins Paul and Andrea gave him the drive to push his career to the next level. “My career really kicked off when the twins were born because I had to earn for my family,” he explains. Indeed, his son Paul has written his biography — charting his remarkable life and comedy career, giving fans a deeper insight into the man behind the jokes.
