Following his headline performance at the recent Let’s Rock Liverpool festival at Croxteth Park, pop legend Tony Hadley was spotted enjoying authentic Nepalese cuisine at West Derby’s Everest Kitchen. Some say this isn’t ‘True’ but we can assure you it is and that Tony thinks the new restaurant is ‘Gold’.

After rocking Liverpool with a fantastic live performance, Hadley planned a dinner for his band and friends at the popular new Nepalese restaurant on Mill Lane and thoroughly enjoyed it. Diners were amazed as the pop legend mingled with diners, enjoyed banter and happily allowed them to take photos with him.

Speaking to LVL, Tony told us: “I had planned a dinner to follow my band’s performance at Let’s Rock Liverpool on Saturday 27th July and on looking online I found the Everest Kitchen. It was 10 minutes from the venue and I have to say I liked the look of the menu so we headed up the Mountain!”

Tony continued: “The staff were particularly friendly and helpful, and we sampled a good selection of the menu as there were 12 of us. The Fabulous TH Band had a great dinner and I would happily recommend the Everest Kitchen for a good meal, with friendly staff in a spacious dining room.”

Everest Kitchen opened in May 2019 an is already creating quite a storm locally. Specialising in authentic Nepalese and Indian cuisine, it has become hugely popular — particularly for birthdays and special occasions. The menu is extensive, yet not expensive, with an abundance of options and plenty of vegan and gluten free options.

Everest Kitchen has set menus and their early bird menu offers poppadoms, a starter and a main with rice and naan for just £11.95. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 5pm, you can dine in a relaxed and simplistic environment with authentic Nepalese music and beautiful pictures of Everest and Nepal.

We visited on a Tuesday evening to discuss a feature on the restaurant. We had previously attended a Nepalese charity dinner there and returned to help promote their new restaurant. We enjoyed poppadoms, a mixed starter of shish kebab, onion bhaji, chicken tikka and chicken lollipop and butter chicken with boiled rice for our main.

Prior to our visit, owner Deepak Khadka was unaware of who Tony was — just that he knew a guy was up from London and there was photographs and a bit of a fuss. During our visit, we showed Deepak and the staff Youtube videos of Tony Hadley and Spandau Ballet live in front of thousands of fans — much to their amazement!

Deepak told us: “We’ve been open for three months now and local people love what we’re doing. There aren’t many restaurants around that offer Nepalese cuisine fused with Indian cuisine and we have a large menu so there’s plenty of choice. We offer really good value too.”

Of Tony’s visit, Deepak explained: “You know, being Nepalese I don’t know much about UK 80s pop music, so I didn’t know who he was. I just knew that this guy was up from London and people came over and had photos with him. I showed our friends at La Vida Liverpool and they showed me Youtube videos with him singing to thousands of fans and I was like ‘wow’!”

Deepak continued: “We are a very friendly restaurant and welcome anyone. Tony is a really nice guy and he is welcome back here any time. People like to choose us for celebrations as we offer authentic cuisine and relaxed dining — we love to make a fuss over people for their birthday too — bring out cake, play music and make a video.”
