The exciting development was announced as the Mayor of Liverpool, UK, Joanne Anderson, and the Deputy Mayor of Nashville, USA, Brenda Haywood, joined hands in solidarity between their two cities at the British Consulate on 10th October — during the song contest’s reception in commemoration of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

Through the Mayors, the cities of Liverpool and Nashville promised to work together on delivering sustainable economic global community benefits through trade, investment, science, technology, culture, education, and tourism.

The partnership will be implemented through visits between cities as needed, promoting and facilitating opportunities for collaboration, trade and investment in key economic sectors including music, healthcare, life sciences, tech, digital content, visitor economy, and tourism. As two dynamic music cities, a particular emphasis will be placed on exploring potential creative music collaborations and exchanges.

In March 2023 the partnership will be discussed at length in UK parliament, facilitated by global charity and song contest partner TUFF.EARTH. The discussions between both cities will establish various trade projects across many key sectors, in a move that could stimulate exciting growth and opportunities for many.

The agreement was made following the successful collaboration between the two cities for The Road To Nashville — Liverpool International Song Contest, which saw over 21,411 songwriters from 31 countries enter and 3,600 participants opt into the free mental health programme from global charity TUFF.EARTH.

The top 10 finalists of the song contest performed live before judges in Nashville at the legendary EXIT/IN on John Lennon’s birthday on 9th October — with winner Edi Callier wowing the judges with his original song, Alone, which shared a story of his mental health struggles. Edi will now go on to perform at the iconic Cavern Club — one of the partners of the song contest.
