We recently brought you news of a new dog café at Katy’s K9 Care dog groomers and dog park, situated at Molloy’s Garden Centre on Leasowe Road. To follow this up, we decided to spend a few hours at the Wirral dog park to find out what goes on there and meet some of the dogs who love to come and play! We visited on ‘Wild Wednesday’ and there were 14 gorgeous dogs at the park that day. The owners pay £16 for Katy and the team to pick their dogs up from their home in the morning and the dogs enjoy hours of playing and socialising before getting dropped off back at home around 1pm. The dog park is then available for private hire in the afternoon for just £6 per hour.

Katy’s dog park service (ideal for when people are at work) is available Mon-Fri. There’s a fun play area with playhouses, toys, a sandpit, a paddling pool and a trampoline (the dogs LOVE the trampoline) and also a large open field. Due to popular demand, another field is being introduced soon too so it’ll be even bigger! In addition to this, the dogs are sometimes taken on adventure days out (whilst on leads).

Rather than keeping your dogs indoors all day whilst you are out, allowing them to play, socialise and run free under the supervision of Katy and her highly qualified team is a great way to improve their mental health. Lucy
Lucy is a gorgeous chocolate lab who is obsessed with playing fetch! During our visit, it was difficult to spend time with the other dogs because Lucy wanted us to throw balls for her all morning! A beautiful, sweet and energetic dog, we love Lucy — almost as much as she loves the field and balls at the dog park!

Cassie
Cassie is a 6-year-old American Bulldog who is known as ‘Momma’ of the pack. If any of the other dogs misbehave you can count on Cassie to keep them in line and all the other dogs respect her greatly. Despite this, she is extremely sweet and affectionate and loves kisses — as our photographer, Ged, found out!

Annie
Annie is a Boxer Cross who lives with Cassie and they love coming to the dog park together! Like Cassie, she is soooo affectionate but often wags her big tail so much with happiness that you need to watch out for it! Annie is a sweetheart who loves to go underneath your legs. Simply adorable!

Misty
Although a completely different type of dog, Misty is actually the cousin of Annie. A small, grey Miniature Schnauzer, Misty is a super cute, sweet natured little lady who comes to the dog park every day! Misty was very good in front of the camera and easy to photograph.

Teddy
Teddy is a small, white Bichon Cross who thinks he’s the alpha male of the pack, but in reality is a soft, cuddly little cutie (rather like our Editor). Teddy is the one who welcomes the new dogs when they visit and everyone loves Teddy!

Boris
Boris is the new dog at the dog park and is already settling in nicely. A gorgeous little Jack Russell/Patterdale Cross, he loves to get in and around your feet. One of the cutest dogs at Katy’s dog park, he wins hearts with his funny little ways. We did see him try to dominate Bamber the large Dalmation though, so perhaps not so innocent after all!

Bamber
It’s not often you come across a Dalmation and it was a pleasure to meet Bamber! With beautiful markings, Bamber is a very handsome young 2-year-old. He keeps the staff on their toes though, as sometimes he tries to be a bit too affectionate. Great friends with Teddy, Bamber has loved joining the dog park!

Ronnie & Ralph (The Kray Twins)
Ronnie & Ralph, aka The Kray Twins, are two brothers who stick together and secretly control the dog park. Often found sitting on a table overlooking the other dogs, nobody messes with Ronnie & Ralph. They may look like cute little Shih Tzus but this dynamic duo is a force to be reckoned with! Ralph did not like his photo being taken but we got there in the end!

Luna
Luna, or ‘Lunatic’ as she’s nicknamed, truly lives up to her name! A wild and hyperactive Golden Retriever, Luna basically runs around for hours at the dog park and never gets tired. A typical Golden Retriever, she loves getting muddy and loves playing in the paddling pool. A gorgeous girl with endless energy — we love Luna!

Coco
Rather like Luna, Coco is a dog with bags of energy! With long legs and an athletic physique, Coco loves nothing more than running wild and free in the large field — often in her own crazy world. She loves going for runs on her own, with the other dogs unable to keep up, and her owners are always grateful that she’s worn out when she returns home.

Bailey
A very smart Border Collie, Bailey loves running around the field and herding up all the other dogs as if they are sheep. Another dog who loves playing fetch with the balls, Bailey is very fast and a great catcher — often jumping high in the air to catch a bouncing ball. A very intelligent dog, he is always one step ahead of the others.

Reggie
A Lakeland Terrier Cross, Reggie is a little dog with a big bark and it’s impossible to ignore him! Without doubt the loudest dog in the park, Reggie loves to be heard and can sometimes be a bit cheeky with it. The only thing he loves more than barking is belly rubs.

Scooby
Scooby was so placid and quiet during our visit that we always missed him out! A heart melting little King Charles Cavalier, Scooby is an absolute delight and one of the regulars who visits 2 to 3 days per week. A very chilled out dog with a lovely nature, when we finally got to him he soon opened up — sitting at our feet and enjoying strokes.

It was an amazing experience visiting Katy’s K9 Care and the dog park for the morning, and meeting all the different dogs with different personalities. The work Katy and her team does to give dogs a better life is truly inspiring. If you’re looking for a dog café to visit with your dog, a dog groomers or a place for your dogs to play and run free, then this place is a must for dog lovers!
