MY FATHER LIVES ON THROUGH MY ST HELENS CAFE!

A business owner from St Helens has declared her joy of knowing that her late father lives on through her little cafe. Jennifer Tabern is the owner of Algrante’s, located at Four Acre Shopping Centre, and she has named it so after her father who passed away prior to it opening.

Algrante’s is a ‘proper cafe’ that offers hearty breakfasts, lunches and roasts on Sundays — as well as quality tea and coffee. A community hub, it is a meeting place that brings people together and where conversations between strangers are had and where new friendships are made.
For Jennifer, Algrante’s is more than just a cafe, it stands as a beautiful tribute to love and remembrance. She explains: “Algrante is my maiden name, which comes from my late father who was Italian. The name Algrante’ has Italian roots and I like to think I’m offering a slice of the Mediterranean here in St Helens.”

After the passing of her father, she sought to establish a space where memories could be created and cherished — similar to the memories she shared with her late father. By opening her cafe, she has kept these special memories alive, turning her grief into a celebration of life at the same time.
As Easter approaches, Algrante’s is hosting Breakfast With The Easter Bunny. Families are invited to join in the fun, enjoying delicious breakfast treats while making magical memories with the beloved Easter character. This event is just one of the many seasonal celebrations hosted by the cafe, which also includes Breakfast With Santa and other events designed to create lasting memories.

Jennifer said: “The blue theme is inspired by the seaside, when I go abroad I love sitting outside and looking at the amazing blue skies. For me it’s about creating a place where people can escape to and enjoy special moments together — like going on holiday in the heart of St Helens.”
Maria Davies, who works at the cafe, added: “It’s a great place for people to come and sit down, meet new people and relax. We have all age ranges from young to old and the community is very friendly”.

Adding to its charm, the cafe’s adopted dog Teddy can often be found eagerly awaiting his daily sausage treat. With its heartfelt mission, community events, and a touch of seaside charm, Algrante’s is more than just a place to grab a bite — it’s a special place where memories are made. Algrante’s has also recently introduced a new line of ice cream and milkshakes, perfect for the summer months!
