On Sunday 17th September, Frenchic expert Lindsay Hudson is hosting a Decoupage & Crackle workshop at Vale House in Vale Park, New Brighton, and Furniture Painting For Beginners workshops on Sunday 15th and 29th October.

The fun afternoon workshops cost just £65 to attend, including all paint and materials, and have received many 5 star reviews. You will need to bring an old piece of furniture with you and during the afternoon you will learn the art of ‘upcycling’ furniture and transforming your item into a wonderful new piece.

The creative workshops are fun social events but restoring old furniture can also save money, be a great hobby or business and is good for the environment. Workshop organiser Lindsay Hudson is the owner of The Vintage Interior Fairy on Seabank Road in New Brighton and she sells Frenchic paint, offers full restoration services and sells ‘saved’ furniture and antiques from her shop.

Lindsay said: “The workshops are really fun and often new friendships are made. There’s a great mental health benefit of getting creative and being completely absorbed in the task at hand but it can also lead to a hobby or even a career selling transformed furniture.”
She continued: “Furniture painting has become more and more popular, particularly since lockdowns when people were looking for something creative to do. Transforming old pieces of furniture is a lot cheaper than buying new and it’s so satisfying — when you master the art you can turn it into a good business too.”

On Lindsay’s courses, people learn how to master the art of furniture painting and many get hooked after that first session. The 17th September workshop focuses on decoupage and crackle, the art of applying picture designs on furniture and giving it a more antique look, whereas the October workshops are ideal for beginners.
