NME FAVOURITES CVC COMING TO LIVERPOOL AHEAD OF WORLD DOMINATION!
When Welsh rising stars CVC come to Jimmy’s on Thursday 27th April, it could well be that gig you refer to in 20 years time — telling people how you saw them for less than £10 just as they were hitting the bigtime! From a small town in South Wales to imminent stardom, the path is paved for a fairytale story of greatness and NME magazine certainly thinks so!

The blockbuster music magazine featured the band twice in 2022, describing them as ‘like a glitter bomb on the verge of explosion’ and their Real To Reel EP ‘as distinctive as their uber-retro style’. With big praise from many others including Mojo, their now signature psych-rock-pop sound is making huge waves — hence now being managed by Arctic Monkeys manager Geoff Barradale.
CVC come to Jimmy’s in Liverpool on Thursday 27th April as part of a UK tour of their new album, Get Real, alongside a host of local up-and-coming bands. The special showcase comes courtesy of legendary local promoters EVOL, who have a knack of catching bands on the cusp of stardom — as they have done with the likes of The Arctic Monkeys, Florence & The Machine, Idles, Fontaine DC and Inhaler.
Thanks to EVOL, we caught up with the small town heroes for a little Q&A ahead of the Liverpool gig and a titanic future on the horizon….

LVL: So, what have you guys been up to recently?
CVC: We have our first headline tour coming up in April so we’ve been rehearsing for that, in between recording new material over at our home away from home, Rockfield Studios. Also managed to get our first hour of sunbathing of 2023 in so that’s always great for mind and soul!
LVL: So this April gig at Jimmy’s — is it your first time here in Liverpool and what can we expect on the night?
CVC: It will be our second ever time in Liverpool! We played once last year and the room was absolutely rammed! The crowd was the best part of that show though so hoping that’s a Liverpool thing! You can expect high energy and and a hoarse voice in the morning!

LVL: If someone asked you to describe the band in three words what would they be?
CVC: Hmmmmm, Good Time Boys
LVL: Going back to the start, how did you guys form and who are your influences as a band?
CVC: We all grew up together in Church Village South Wales, and just made it up as we went along! A staple would be Liverpool’s own Fab Four, and other harmony driven bands like America and CSN, but also the groovier stuff of the Motown era, like Marvin Gaye and the likes.
LVL: What’s the band name all about?
CVC: The Church Village Collective! A group of musicians not limited to the 6 of us. We love a guest musician or a guest vocalist from time to time, so if you want in, you’re in!

LVL: Things seem to have exploded for you in a major way. How do you handle that and stay grounded with all the praise you’re getting in such high places?
CVC: Well it’s a nice feeling knowing that people are enjoying our music just like we enjoy the music of our favourite bands and that’s the greatest gift since music is the doctor. And since we’re so overly critical of our own work, it’s nice to break that up with some outside opinions.
But for us the main thing to keep doing is to thank everybody who is giving up their time to say these nice things, since they really are helping our band reach the goals we’ve set ourselves.
LVL: 2023 looks like it will be a really exciting year and the calendar is filling up nicely — any gigs or festivals you’re particularly looking forward to?
CVC: Well we’re playing our first ever US show on Bonaroo this year and we are absolutely bouncing for it!! Church Village lads in Tennessee is still a crazy thought!

LVL: What are your plans for the future and what are your goals/dreams as a band?
CVC: For us it’s music, music, music! We have so much music ready to show the world and are itching to get it out! Since every member of the band is a writer, there’s always new songs being brought forward and it’s getting harder and harder to choose what’s going on the next album.
We are a tight knit band, we are very close and we work on relationships within the band to ensure that we stay this tight for the foreseeable future — and to make sure everybody is always enjoying life on the band. The main goal is to keep making music but to also still enjoy being in the band for decades to come.
The Liverpool gig at Jimmy’s is set to be a very special showcase indeed and one you can proudly say you were at when ‘Church Village Collective’ were on the cusp of world domination. Catch them from 7.30pm on Thursday 27th April — with tickets just £9.63 with booking fees.
