ROCKPOINT RECORDS LAUNCHES NEW OPEN MIC WITH A DIFFERENCE!

New Brighton’s vibrant venue, Rockpoint Records, is shaking up the local live scene with the launch of a fresh, first-of-its-kind open mic night designed specifically to champion original music. The Sesh invites emerging artists and bands to take the stage every Thursday night and perform their own original songs — with a chance to win a paid gig!

The regular Thursday night open mic has an ethos of no covers and no restrictions on genre — just new music and new voices. What sets this open mic apart is its competitive twist and its clear pathway for up-and-coming performers. Each week, Paddy from local band Ambedo Blue will join the audience in judging the night’s performances.

The crowd plays a central role, helping decide which act truly connected on the night. The reward is more than bragging rights. The winning artist or band will secure a paid headlining slot at Rockpoint Records the following week — giving performers the rare opportunity to return to the stage as a featured act, build a following and ultimate get more paid gigs.

Co-Creator Wayne Saunders said: “For many local musicians, open mic nights are an important first step, but they rarely offer tangible progression. Rockpoint Records’ new format changes that by turning a single performance into a potential launchpad. We’re excited to see what talent we attract with our new concept and who knows — we might get to witness the next big thing!”

By combining live audience feedback, industry insight from an experienced local performer and a guaranteed paid headline show, the weekly event offers something genuinely different for New Brighton’s creative community. In terms of venues, there aren’t many better for live music than Rockpoint Records — indeed, top acts such as The Mysterines and Headfeeder have performed there.

This new open mic night reflects Rockpoint Records’ ongoing commitment to supporting emerging talent and strengthening the grassroots music scene. It’s a space where original artists can be heard, celebrated and — most importantly — given the chance to take the next step in their live career. Aspiring performers can head down every Thursday night, sign up, plug in and let their original music do the talking.
