Scouse ‘Turkey Teeth’ is the subject of Liverpool comedian John May’s hilarious new movie. Turk & Lemo: Panic In Paradise tells the story of two stereotypical Scousers who find themselves in a world of trouble whilst visiting Turkey to get their teeth done at New Look Dental Clinic — with celebrity Christine McGuinness co-starring in the brilliant new production and the wild premiere night at Murphy’s Distillery.
The new short movie, an action-packed 30 minute rollercoaster ride, is a spin-off from John May’s Instagram creation ‘Turkey Teeth’ — a character who has gone viral for a series of video skits at the Turkish dental tourism industry. The laugh-a-minute comedy was premiered in Liverpool on Friday 30th December and has already been met with critical acclaim.
A classic double act movie, Turk & Lemo: Panic In Paradise sees the bumbling wannabe Turk venture to the Turkish riviera with his mate Lemo — in search of pearly white new teeth and adventure. During the trip they get much more than they bargain for when they become embroiled in the Turkish mafia and a wild escapade ensues!
The movie is the debut production from John May, one of the hottest Scouse comedy prospects to emerge in the past 20 years. The former barber became famous for sharp stand up comedy and creating hilarious characters during lockdowns and has since starred in Doctor Who, attracting celeb Christine McGuinness to be involved in this latest project.
John said: “Turkey Teeth is a big subject in Liverpool and many people flock to Turkey to get their teeth done. There’s definitely a Scouse stereotype thing going on there. I love creating characters and created one named ‘Turk’ that went viral so when I was contacted by Chris from New Look Smile in Turkey to film a movie out there I jumped at the chance.”
He explained: “Chris owns a huge clinic out there called New Look Dental Clinic and after he saw my videos about Turk he asked me to come over and make a movie about it. I’ve been acting and doing stand up comedy for over 20 years now but to film a movie abroad about one of my characters has been amazing and a great experience — the feedback so far has been fantastic and people are already asking for a sequel.”
With the subject of ‘turkey teeth’ and Turkish dental tourism causing much division in the dental industry, the movie is a clever play on the matter — with plenty of parodies included. Sponsored by New Look Dental Clinic — a leading luxury clinic based in Antalya, owned by Scouser Chris Byrne and fronted by Turkish dental professor Betul Ozcapur — it approaches the subject in an ingenious and side-splitting way.
Chris from New Look Dental Clinic said: “I saw John’s Instagram skits of Scouse Turkey Teeth and got in touch about shooting a movie here. I new from the start it would be so funny! I am from Merseyside originally and have been working in dentistry over here successfully for over 10 years now so I can see the funny side of things about it all.”
He continued: “The Turkish dental industry is massive and thousands of Brits go over each year to save up to 70% on dental work in the UK, without the stereotypical super white look, but UK Dentistry and the British press slate Turkish dental work. The subject has become such a big topic so John’s slant on it is very clever and funny — when I saw his social media videos I had to get on board.”
Chris Byrne is originally from Wirral and has owned dental clinics in Turkey for over 10 years — helping to start famous brand Sevil Smile amongst others. The extremely successful entrepreneur has a sound knowledge of UK clients and also the Turkish dental tourism industry — helping thousands of happy customers in the process.
Turk & Lemo: Panic In Paradise approaches a controversial subject in an extremely funny and intelligent way — in an action packed extravaganza that takes inspiration from other classic double act movies. From Laurel & Hardy to Planes, Trains & Automobiles to Lethal Weapon, Turk & Lemo will have you in stitches from start to finish.
Turk & Lemo: Panic In Paradise is available to watch for free on Youtube — with hundreds of thousands of views across all socials within the first seven days of release. Meanwhile, New Look Smile offers a free consultation to anyone wishing to explore ‘Turkey Teeth’ for themselves.
