Multi-award winning therapist Carol Hickson has created The Resilience Template – We Bounce Back!, a 10-module online course inspired by her first book, The Resilience Template – 7 Steps to Improve Your Mental Health. The programme is aimed primarily at women over 40 who have spent years “living small,” battling fear, anxiety, self-criticism or unresolved trauma, often while quietly putting everyone else first.

Built around what Carol calls the “7 PARTNER Steps,” the course guides participants through areas including nervous system regulation, acceptance, self-awareness, self-talk, habit building and reflection. The modules are designed to help women reconnect with themselves, move beyond past trauma and create healthier patterns for the future.
Carol, originally from Northwich and now living in St. Asaph, says the course was created for women who may feel trapped by fear, trauma or years of self-doubt. “This course is for all those of us who, at our most vulnerable, wished we had somebody in our corner,” she explains. “I’m here and I’m waiting to support you as you transition into the most important phase of your life — the point where you finally come back home to you.”

The launch marks another milestone in a remarkable personal and professional journey that began after Carol reached crisis point in 2016 following years of severe insomnia, chronic pain and unresolved trauma. Carol grew up in a difficult environment marked by neglect, fear and alcoholism, experiences that later contributed to Complex PTSD and long-term nervous system dysregulation.

Over the years she also faced multiple bereavements, including the deaths of her partner and father, while coping with chronic health conditions including spinal disc prolapses, dystonia, osteoarthritis and post-concussion syndrome. Despite these many adversities, she has not only navigated everything thrown at her, she has gone on to become qualified in many modalities and help hundreds of women.
After being told by a sleep specialist that her health had reached a dangerous stage, Carol retrained as a therapist to better understand her own struggles and support others facing similar challenges. She has since qualified in nine therapeutic modalities including Clinical Hypnotherapy, NLP, Reiki, Mindfulness, Emotional Freedom Technique and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

One of the turning points in her recovery came during Emotional Freedom Technique training, where she experienced a dramatic reduction in long-standing physical pain after addressing emotional trauma stored within the nervous system.
Today, Carol works with individuals, organisations and community groups, helping people better understand nervous system regulation, emotional wellbeing and resilience. She is also a Mental Health First Aid trainer, workplace trainer, podcast host and children’s author.

Her work has already received recognition within the wellbeing and business communities. Last year she received a special award at the Woman Who Solopreneur Awards and was recently named runner-up in the Overcomer category at the Womanifest Awards. She is also set to speak at both Womanifest and the Women’s Work and Wellbeing Body Wisdom event this year.

Carol says community and connection remain central to her work, reflecting on how her original resilience classes began as a small £7-a-week gathering in Northwich where participants learned nervous system regulation techniques together in a supportive environment. “I’ve seen so many clients have eureka moments,” she says. “We had fun and we healed in community because the truth is most of us are wounded in our community, and so that’s where we need to heal.”
