WIRRAL BOUTIQUE’S TRIBUTE TO 100 YEAR OF GIRLGUIDING WORLD THINKING DAY!

An independent Wirral womenswear boutique is proudly marking 100 years of Girlguiding World Thinking Day with a vibrant, hand-painted window celebrating safe spaces for girls and young women. Wardrobe at the Cross in Neston has unveiled a special centenary display created in honour of Girlguiding’s World Thinking Day.

The artwork was commissioned by business owner Hilary James and brought to life by local artist Nikki Pickles, who works under the creative handle @inkypickles. The colourful window — filled with rainbows, hearts and the iconic Girlguiding trefoil — is a joyful tribute not just to the organisation’s history, but to its ongoing mission to provide safe, empowering spaces for girls.

Hilary James, co-owner of Wardrobe at the Cross, said: “Girlguiding creates safe spaces where girls can grow in confidence, build friendships and feel supported. That mission resonates deeply with us as a female-led business. We are passionate about creating spaces where women feel seen, valued and confident — whether that’s through fashion or through community.”

The boutique commissioned Nikki Pickles,  herself a passionate supporter of safe spaces for women, to design and paint the display — turning the celebration into a collaboration between two local female-owned businesses and Girlguiding. World Thinking Day has been celebrated for a century by members of Girlguiding and Girl Guides across the globe, recognising the power of community, leadership and belonging for young women.

Hilary added: “Supporting women in business is incredibly important to us. Nikki shares our belief in championing women and girls, so it felt very natural to work together on something that celebrates exactly that.”

Wardrobe at the Cross, known for its contemporary, sustainable fashion for women over 50, has built a loyal following in Neston and across the Wirral. The boutique regularly collaborates with other female founders and independent businesses, reinforcing its commitment to community-led growth.

By spotlighting World Thinking Day, the boutique hopes to raise awareness locally of the opportunities Girlguiding provides within the Wirral area. Hilary said: “If our window encourages even one family to discover their local Girlguiding group, then we’ve achieved something meaningful. Safe, supportive communities for women and girls matter more than ever.”
