We’ve enjoyed some truly sublime weather so far this year and with summer now well and truly upon us, one of the ‘hot topics’ is beer gardens. We’ve scoured the region for some of the hidden gems to enjoy al fresco dining or refreshing drinks in the sun and here are some belters off the beaten track….

Leasowe Castle (Leasowe)

Wirral’s historic coastal castle is well known for weddings and luxury stays but many forget it’s also a great destination for quality food and drink in a stunning setting. New Head Chef Gareth Cole’s mouth-watering new menu is available 7 days a week and you can enjoy their delicious food or drinks in the garden that has an adjacent wooded area. A perfect stop off whilst on a coastal walk!

This iconic pub on Lark Lane is steeped in history, character and charm. Here you’ll find a great pint, craft ales, mouth-watering Pieminster pies, live music, open mic nights, live sport and a buzzing atmosphere. You’ll also find their little gem of a beer garden to the rear with a mural. Hailed by many as ‘the best pub on The Lane’, a pint at The Albert is a must if you’re visiting Sefton Park and Lark Lane!

The Clarence (New Brighton)

Here at La Vida Liverpool, we love pubs off the beaten track and we’re huge fans of this gem! Situated on Albion Street in Higher New Brighton, The Clarence is a ‘proper pub’ with a quiz night, karaoke, music bingo, open mic nights, live music at weekends, dog friendly and a great atmosphere. The beer garden plays boss music and is a great place to escape for an afternoon — you could literally be anywhere!

This award winning pub located just off New Brighton promenade is full of character and original features and offers quality food served daily — with plenty of craft ales to choose from. Their beer garden is a little slice of heaven and a perfect place to bask for hours or enjoy Wine Wednesday (3 tapas dishes and a glass of wine for £13.95), Fish Fridays or a Sunday Roast. At weekends you’ll find top live music and they have a beer festival the first weekend of July!

A cool basement hangout on Hope Street, The Pen Factory is one of Liverpool’s true gems! This legendary institution offers the highest quality artisan produce, from their fresh deli or their exquisite small plates and main dishes. One for the connoisseurs, The Pen Factory brings you fine wines and cask ales, live music and events. Their secret courtyard is a charming sun trap and one of our favourite places to escape to.
