Lauded by readers far and wide, Valediction Records delves into the lives of a group of friends who form a band during the post-punk era, exploring their rise to fame, bitter breakup, and a pact that binds them together. Powerful and poignant, it dips in between characters and timelines — taking the reader on an awe-inspiring journey through their lives.
A story of friendship, love, music and life, it’s a novel written with heart from someone who has very much lived all these things to the fullest. Peter Davies became a star in the public eye at the age of just seven — appearing in the hit Granada documentary series 7UP, that followed the lives of ordinary people from the age of seven, and he has been on quite the journey since.

A public figure since childhood, he went on to become a teacher and Crown Prosecutor whilst starring in the 7UP series every seven years. However, whilst attempting to live a ‘normal’ life amidst being a star of one of the most famous documentary series of all time, he has found his true calling and passion in music and now writing.

Peter explained: “Having balanced being in the 7UP series pretty much all my life with living a ‘normal’ life as a teacher and family man, my creative outlet has always been music. Originally, I was in fairly punky new wave bands before falling in love with a grittier, rootsier kind of country music. I’ve been in a band, The Good Intentions, for many years now and it has inspired me to write my first novel.”
He continued: “Valediction Records is about how we deal with time passing, with growing older. Our regrets. Our losses. And how we cope with all of that. Some parts were emotionally tough to write, especially those dealing with mental illness and dementia. One of the characters suffers from depression, which I’ve dealt with on and off in my life. Another deals with dementia, something I’ve seen up close in my family. If you want to write something meaningful, you have to be brave and confront the darkness.”

Now retired, Peter’s creativity has hit new heights — from being a musician to recently Co-Writing and Producing the hit country musical theatre production Under The Mersey Moon that sold out The Floral Pavilion on multiple dates. He has now released his debut novel, Valediction Records, and is enjoying some incredible feedback from music and book lovers alike.

Peter summarised: “You’ve got to write a novel because you need to. Because it won’t let you go. Valediction Records is about people bonded by music and the past, and what happens to them in life. It’s emotional. The project’s ongoing. Things are beginning to stir. That’s all I can say. But I don’t think you’ve heard the last of it.”
