Woodside Ferry Village food hall – which doubled as the departure lounge in the 1980’s Oscar winning movie, Chariots of Fire — is home to a fantastic range of international food and a great drink offering. With award winning vendors and something for everyone, it’s an idyllic place to enjoy ‘food with a view’.

3. Events & Private Hire

Woodside Ferry Village will host a fantastic calendar of events in 2020. As an ongoing offering, they have ‘Wine Wednesdays’ every Wednesday from 5pm — a full main meal and a bottle of wine for £15pp. It has a series of events on Thursdays, including an open mic from 7pm, together with other seasonal events throughout the year.

4. Ferry ‘Cross The Mersey

Enjoy a trip on the legendary Ferry ‘Cross the Mersey, especially on the colourful Dazzle Ferry with a design created by Sir Peter Blake, perhaps best known for the creation of the Sgt Pepper’s album cover. This river journey is undertaken by thousands of visitors each year giving an entirely different perspective of both Liverpool and Wirral skylines.

5. U534 Exhibition & Museum

Visit the U534 Exhibition and Museum where you will gain a unique insight into life aboard a WW2 German submarine. With original film archive and interactive displays you will witness all the dramatic action at this award winning attraction.

6. Monks Ferry

Take a short walk along the waterfront promenade to Monks Ferry — named for the monks of the Birkenhead Priory who ran a ferry across to Liverpool in the 12th century — where you will see the industrial infrastructure of the world famous Cammell Laird shipyard.

Going a bit further leads you to Birkenhead Priory — the oldest standing building on Merseyside founded in 1150 — and if feeling energetic you can climb its 25m high St Mary’s Tower for panoramic views of the River Mersey.

7. Hamilton Square

Take a look around the iconic Hamilton Square where you’ll see the former town hall building overlooking the most Grade I listed buildings outside of London. This impressive Georgian square was designed by Edinburgh architect James Gillespie Graham.

8. Wirral Transport & Heritage Museum

From Hamilton Square to nearby Taylor Street you can enjoy the sights and sounds of yesteryear at the Wirral Transport and Heritage Museum, where volunteers of the Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society restore and preserve transport of the past for the delight and benefit of the present and the future.

9. The War Memorials

Only a few yards further along the promenade from Woodside Ferry Village you will find memorials for the ill-fated Royal Navy Thetis submarine which sank in 1939, and for the Cockleshell Heroes, a group of Royal Marine canoeists who were behind one of the most daring raids of World War II.
