In February 2025, a powerful force for change emerged on the Wirral — Reverse North West CIC, a Community Interest Company founded to help women break free from the devastating impacts of domestic abuse. The Wallasey based organisation offers a wide range of free services and is ran by a team of volunteers that many describe simply as angels.

At its welcoming hub on Withens Lane, Wallasey, Reverse North West operates a free drop-in centre, open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm. With an open-door policy, women can walk in without judgment, without fear and without cost — a rarity in an overstretched and underfunded domestic abuse support system. The hub building has been kindly provided by Liscard Primary School.

Here, women who have been subject to domestic abuse — whether that be physical, sexual, mental, emotional or financial — can access a wide range of free services, from trauma-informed counselling and psychotherapy, to a range of wellbeing and healing treatments including:

It’s not just therapy — it’s a holistic approach to rebuilding lives. The counselling at Reverse North West CIC is rooted in trauma-informed practice, which recognises the complex effects of abuse and prioritises safety, empowerment and trust. Whether a woman is seeking one-to-one counselling or group workshops, the environment is designed to help her regain her sense of safety, self-worth and autonomy.
Psychotherapy sessions offer deeper insights into how a person’s thoughts, behaviours and emotions may be impacted by trauma, helping women make sense of their experiences and reclaim control of their futures. In addition to the free counselling, psychotherapy and healing services on offer, Reverse North West CIC also offers practical advise and signposting wherever necessary so that women know their options.

What makes Reverse North West CIC truly special is the people behind it. Run entirely by a dedicated team of volunteers, these are individuals who selflessly give their time, energy and compassion to make sure every woman who walks through their door feels seen, heard and supported. They don’t do it for pay. They do it because they care.
In an area where over 117,000 people (predominantly women and children) experience domestic abuse annually, and support services are struggling to cope, Reverse North West CIC stands as a shining example of community-led action. The team fills a critical gap, often becoming that first vital step for a woman who doesn’t know where to turn.

At the heart of Reverse North West CIC is Eve Donnelly, who is living experience of domestic violence survival. Eve explains: “Eight years ago, I was in a relationship with a man who subjected me to three years of sustained physical, emotional, financial and sexual abuse. I experienced unimaginable abuse and I’m lucky to be alive.”
She continued: “From having my head smashed into a coffee table in the first week to being raped, beaten, locked outside naked and constantly manipulated — I endured it all while under the grip of trauma bonding and Stockholm Syndrome. My abuser is now serving 23 years in prison thanks to the police intervening and pursuing charges when I didn’t have the strength to. I now want to bridge the gap and help other women break free.”

Through years of healing and recovery, Eve has found her voice — and now uses it to speak to schools and organisations, helping others understand the realities of domestic violence and how to spot the signs. She has also created a new educational video for schools. Reverse North West CIC is her way of giving back — to offer other women the kind of support she wishes she had in those dark moments.

Every counselling session. Every healing treatment. Every drop-in conversation over a cup of tea — it’s all free for the women who need it most.
