Liverpool is a veritable hotbed of theatrical activity, with a host of venues old and new there are so many great places for a night out of top quality entertainment — we are spoilt for choice! Yet, the other side of the river is also partial to donning a bit of greasepaint, and this week is no exception as the Birkenhead-based amateur theatre company The Carlton Players brings their adaptation of Blackadder Goes Forth to The Little Theatre this week!

The Little Theatre, an amateur theatre venue and charity situated on Grange Road West is Birkenhead’s only remaining theatre. The converted church has been a community resource for all things dramatic for over 60 years, and while other larger venues in the town have unfortunately fallen by the wayside, the Little Theatre is still going strong.

The Carlton Players, resident amateur theatre company of the Little Theatre, are staging a production this week of Blackadder Goes Forth, having chosen the centenary of the end of the First World War as a fitting time to explore Blackadder’s take on its horror and sheer absurdity.  Tickets are just £9 and are available here. The show is running every night this week until Saturday 10th November, so come on down and support your local community thespians at Birkenhead’s tiny theatrical treasure!

Hi. Just to say, I’m Gareth Crawshaw and I am playing Melchett in the show. The photos im this article were taken during our rehearsal on Hallowe’en and as such do not represent a true likeness of how we appear on stage.

    Or do they!?

Why not come along and find out for yourself?
