Liverpool’s forward thinking venue, Unity Theatre, is soon to be celebrating its 40th birthday! The ground breaking theatre, situated on Hope Place just off Hope Street, has big plans for 2020 including more community based events. We recently attended their amazing Soul Fillers Christmas Pop Up Restaurant event and it’s a highly recommended experience….

What’s the Soul Fillers Christmas Pop Up Restaurant about?
The Soul Fillers Christmas Pop Up Restaurant consists of four special dining events throughout December (we attended the first one on 6th, the others are on 11th,18th and 20th) at Unity Theatre. The amazing thing about these events is that not only can you enjoy high quality food, but you can support a charity at the same time!
The events are put on by local charity MOWLL (Moving On With Life & Learning) in collaboration with award winning chef Sky Glover at Happy Go Cooking. The aim of MOWLL and the Soul Fillers project is to provide opportunities for people with learning disabilities and mental health issues to work in the catering industry, creating quality cuisine for events like these.

What’s on the menu?
With expert guidance from award winning chef Sky Glover, the project offers platters of high quality cuisine at Unity Theatre for just £15pp or £20 with dessert. Dishes include the likes of roast 5 spice duck, Christmas nut roast, pigs in blankets, chilli, garlic and sea salted asparagus parcels, beef filled Yorkshire puddings, much more and delicious desserts!

Our visit….
We enjoyed a few drinks at the Unity bar and met some great people before heading into the beautifully decorated Unity 2 theatre space! With balloons above and Sigur Ros playing, it was a truly magical setup and the food! WOW! Absolutely gorgeous — beautifully presented and something for everyone. Hint: the chocolate orange cake is out of this world!
