FAMILY SELL ‘BELOVED BUSINESS’ AFTER 15 YEARS OF HAPPY MEMORIES!

A Wirral family have sold their ‘beloved business’ after 15 years of joy and ‘unforgettable memories’. Hannah Cleator and her family have sold popular waterfront bistro, Tanskey’s, and are passing the business onto Head Chef, Jonathan Green, and Maureen Hanson, who say it’s ‘a dream come true’ to be taking ownership.

Located on West Kirby promenade with stunning views over to Wales, Tanskey’s has become one of Wirral’s most popular destinations for breakfast, brunch, lunch, events and private hire. A labour of love for Hannah, her family and dedicated staff, the quaint little bistro has been a big hit in the seaside town since opening in 2010.

Tanskey’s has hosted some great events over the years, such as movie nights, wine tasting, themed nights, live music, dinner parties and Sunday jazz afternoons. Meanwhile, over 1000 successful private functions have been hosted, 14 of which have been stunning weddings in an idyllic location on the coast.

Tanskey’s has raised tens of thousands of pounds for charities and causes over the years, such as Glow With The Flow charity walk, The Wilson Trophy, RNLI , Children Appeal in Africa, West Kirby Live, Cancer Research and others. Tanskey’s has won a number of awards too, such as Wirral Life’s Bar Of The Year award.

That said, the business has had to endure a number of adversities over the years. In addition to the cost of living, Brexit, energy price, workplace pensions and Covid challenges, Tanskey’s was majorly hit by the marine lake wall construction and parking charges. Then there were the floods in both 2013 and 2024. The business has continued to thrive despite all this but now it’s time for a change.

Owner Hannah Cleator and her family have loved their 15 years at the helm of one of Wirral’s most beautiful bistros but all good things must come to an end at some point. Having hosted many stunning events at the venue, Hannah is now planning to set up her own business as an events planner for both private and corporate events.

Hannah said: “It’s been an amazing 15 years owning our beloved family business and we’ve worked so hard to create a special place where unforgettable memories have been made. We wish the staff well with their new management and I would like to take the opportunity to thank every single one of our customers from the bottom of my heart as I wouldn’t be here today without every one of them. So thank you and farewell!”

From July 2025, Tanskey’s will be owned by Head Chef Jonathan Green and staff member Maureen Hanson, who say it’s ‘a dream come true’ to be taking on the business they’ve been working at for years. The dynamic duo have some exciting plans for Tanskey’s with a new menu and more to be announced soon, as Hannah Cleator and her family lock the gates of the quaint bistro for the last time this June.
