The free grants are available to privately rented properties where the tenant has an annual household income of less than £31,000, is on certain benefits or has a health condition. With energy prices through the roof and many people living in fuel poverty, the free solutions will help the tenant physically and financially, whilst benefitting the property at the same time.
In today’s climate, energy saving measures are more important than ever. Loft insulation can reduce a property’s energy bills by as much as 25% and cavity wall insulation by as much as 33%, whilst efficient A rated boilers and renewable technology can save hundreds or even thousands of pounds per year. Alan explained: “A lot of the time it’s a case of people being sceptical and thinking it’s a scam. In other cases, it’s landlords and agents worried about mess. Sadly, in other cases they just don’t care. Having the best possible energy saving measures is vital, however. The more measures in place, the happier the tenant will be and the more money they will have.”
He continued: “The tenant saving money will mean they’re less likely to default on rent and soon there’ll be stricter energy rating rules for rental properties — meaning landlords and agents simply won’t be able to rent out properties with poor ratings.
