On Christmas Eve 2023, after undergoing a colonoscopy, Andrew Forsey, a young Wirral father of two, Freddie (8) and Esmé (6), received the devastating news that he had cancer. Two weeks later, the news took a turn for the worse, it was stage four, incurable, and inoperable. The words “sadly, it’s advanced, incurable, and inoperable” will forever haunt this family as no one wants to hear these words.

Andrew immediately began palliative chemotherapy, and after six rounds, his primary tumour had significantly shrunk, making him eligible for surgery. Andrew underwent surgery to remove his primary tumour along with thirty centimetres of his large bowel, leaving him with a stoma. At this point, Andrew’s determination to fight this battle with everything he had was unwavering, and he never once gave up.

However, Andrew’s journey was not without its challenges. He faced numerous setbacks with failed treatments and required additional operations to control the spread of the cancer. Tragically, after falling ill over Christmas, Andrew was hospitalised, and the family was informed that there was no further treatment available. Andrew’s time was growing short.

Despite his severe illness, Andrew’s spirit remains unbroken. One of Andrew’s final wishes is to raise as much money as possible for the incredible team at Clatterbridge Cancer Charity. They have been a beacon of hope and light throughout Andrew’s journey, and he now wants to raise as much awareness about bowel cancer as possible and provide vital funds for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity and bowel cancer UK along the way.

Bowel cancer does not discriminate based on age. Andrew has provided a link HERE to identify some of the symptoms of bowel cancer. Andrew’s advice is to trust your body. If it is telling you something is not right, trust it and do not let anyone else convince you otherwise, not even medical professionals. You know your body best; look for the signs.
