HUGE PHOTOGRAPHY & ART EXHIBITION COMING TO NEW BRIGHTON!
A huge photography and art exhibition is coming to the Oakland Gallery on Victoria Road in New Brighton on Saturday 2nd July 2022. The Victoria Quarter in New Brighton has become a creative hub and will showcase the work of local photographers and artists — with food, drink and live music on offer too.

The free event was set to be at Hope Anti Supermarket on Victoria Road, but is now taking place at the Oakland art gallery over the road. A wide range of stunning photography and art from local people will be available to purchase or simply admire. With a rising number of people engaging in photography and art, it’s a unique opportunity for local people to display their work at a large exhibition.

Present at the exhibition will be the ‘Salon Des Refuses’ collective — a group of breakaway artists who were rejected by the Williamson Art Gallery before setting up their own successful exhibition in New Brighton recently. Also attending will be Hugh McLaughlan who runs photography workshops for the Ark charity in Birkenhead — they will be displaying work from homeless people who have excelled on their course.
A free stall has been given to Val Fielder in memory of her late partner David Hollis who recently passed away. David was a talented local wildlife photographer who left his catalogue of over 5 million images to the World Wildlife Trust. A fitting and touching tribute that will really add to the event.

The exciting event is being hosted by La Vida Liverpool — a positive local online magazine that takes great pride in showcasing the talents of local people. After seeing a rise in local photography and art and speaking with local photographer Kimberley Phillips, La Vida Liverpool owner and radio presenter, Justin Hopper, came up with the idea to put on a huge exhibition.

Justin said: “During lockdown many people passed the time by being creative and taking up photography or art. These creative passtimes are also great for improving mental health, something that’s an important issue more than ever. As a result of people getting more creative, we’ve seen a huge rise in incredible photographers and artists coming through.”
He continued: “All you need to do is look through local Facebook groups and you’ll see some breathtaking work from local people. I thought it would be a great idea to bring all this together in a huge one day extravaganza, bringing some local charities on board too such as Ark, and what better place than the Victoria Quarter with all its amazing street art?”

The one-off one day event at Oakland Gallery will start at 10am and run through until 5pm — with food trucks on offer serving a variety of food, a fully licensed bar and local musicians jamming outside. The venue has recently been hosting Sunday markets and events in place of Hope Anti Supermarket whilst that venue is temporarily closed.

Rockpoint Leisure’s CEO Daniel Davies said: “The Victoria Quarter has become a real hub of art and creativity and we’ve had some of the best artists in the world come to New Brighton to display their work. We also have a lot of incredible local talent and it’s great to give them a platform too. This kind of event is what we’re all about here on Victoria Road.”
