LA VIDA HOSTS LIVERPOOL INDEPENDENT MUSIC CONFERENCE!

In July 2023, La Vida Liverpool magazine hosted a Liverpool Independent Music Conference at Round The Corner in The Fabric District. The event was a fantastic showcase of some of the best music artists in the region alongside fascinating talks from industry leaders. Here’s a lowdown of the event with photography from Alanah Pitts of The Dark Zoom Media….
Round The Corner

We hosted the event at Round The Corner — a gem of a venue off the beaten track that does great things to support the local independent music scene. Featured by The Liverpool Echo and The Guardian, Round The Corner is a hub of creativity and talent — supporting grass roots music and nurturing local talent whilst attracting international artists.

Daisy Gill

First up was Daisy Gill — a supremely talented artist with a powerful voice, hard hitting lyrics and a graceful presence on stage. With her vintage style and sheer class, the singer songwriter blew us away with her vocals — akin to Amy Winehouse or Etta James — and she has since been selected for The Voice UK with the legendary Tom Jones as her coach!

Miles Temp

Following Daisy we had the absolute pleasure of witnessing one of the most exciting emerging talents of recent times. Remember the name, as 16-year-old Miles Temp is destined for stardom and goosebumps were felt all round due to his emphatic vocals — hitting all the notes! A profound singer songwriter way ahead of his years — watch this space!

Gary Cook

Miles was followed by his father, Gary — a Music Production Teacher at City Of Liverpool College. A seasoned musician, producer as Kooky & Damoon, freelancer for Sound City and music production educator, we enjoyed a Q&A with Gary about his career and the technical side of music.

Duncan Lewis

After Gary’s Q&A, we enjoyed an intriguing one from Duncan Lewis — a Lecturer in Music Business at SAE Institute. We took a deep dive into the music industry, whilst learning about his 30 year career working as an artist and band Manager, tour management and songwriting retreat organiser. Fascinating stuff!

Ambedo Blue

It was time for some more live music — courtesy of New Brighton’s Indie foursome Ambedo Blue. EVOL favourites who have performed on some pretty heavy bills, their catchy tracks such as ‘You’ve Got It All’ have had them likened to The Arctic Monkeys and they have enjoyed coverage from BBC Music Introducing. A class act!

Revo Ziganda

Next up was a Q&A with Mr. EVOL himself, Revo Ziganda. Having been one of the region’s leading promoters for over 20 years, Revo has worked wonders for local artists — showcasing them alongside top acts such as Arctic Monkeys, Jarvis Cocker, Fontaines DC and many more. An intriguing insight into gig promoting from a key player in the local music scene.

Modern Marriage

Following Revo, the venue erupted with a set from Modern Marriage — a formidable 3 piece band who have developed a cult-like following and who have smashed it at The Cavern Club, Jimmy’s and Zanzibar. Having recently supported Apollo Junction, Ben, Lewis and Danny are something seriously special and took the event by storm with their quirky punk rock energy!

Mark Cowley

An on-stage talk with Mark Cowley was always going to be enlightening — a man with vast experience as an Artist Manager, record label owner, publishing company owner and record manufacturing plant owner. Mark has made records for Madonna, Prince and Guns N Roses, has recorded The Farm and Space and has worked with the likes of Iggy Pop, The Petshop Boys and Happy Mondays. An education indeed!

Headfeeder

Formerly known as Razzmatazz, Will, Jamie, Ben and Milo are the fab four that form Headfeeder — an enigmatic force of nature that has set the local music scene alight with their high energy performances. We were treated to just that for the final performance of the evening and having now been taken on by Space’s Manager, Mark Cowley, you can expect some huge things from these guys coming soon!
