Wallasey’s Stargazers Campervan Hire have a luxury VW T28 campervan that sleeps up to four people for as little as £16 per person per day — fully insured! With Stargazers it’s a very simple process, with a few forms to fill out, and then all you need to do is drive! It’s like enjoying campervan life without having to fork out for one.
During the low season (Nov-Feb), you can hire the campervan fully insured for just £270 for a three day weekend, £360 for a four night midweek break or £630 for a full week. Mid season (Mar-May and Sept-Oct) it’s just a small fraction more and high season (June-Aug) they offer it for £700 for a full week.

The Campervan
The VW T28 campervan is manual, diesel and offers a four berth sleeping capacity with all the mod cons including cooking and kitchen facilities — plus it’s pet friendly. It’s really easy to drive, just like driving a small van, and it’s easy enough to figure out the beds and all the contraptions.

Lake Vyrnwy & Bala
Our first stop was my favourite place in Wales — Lake Vyrnwy. Built in the 1880s for Liverpool Corporation Waterworks to supply Liverpool with fresh water, this tranquil reservoir is surrounded by pine trees, mountains, waterfalls and a grand 4 star hotel that boasts views over Lake Vyrnwy, a spa and a gorgeous restaurant.
Dave an I enjoyed some time at the incredible hotel and explored the stunning environment before heading to a campsite just outside Bala town centre. We set up the beds in the campervan to avoid having to do it after a few too many drinks and headed into the town for a hearty dinner and drinks at a few of the high street pubs.

Betws-y-Coed & Porthmadog
On Day 2 we headed to Betws-y-Coed — the picturesque little village in Snowdonia National Park surrounded by forests, mountains and lakes. We met up with our good friend Mark and his family before being joined by Dave’s girlfriend Becky for a hike. Either side of the village there are epic hikes through the forestry up to the lakes and we opted to explore Llyn y Parc (Llyn Elsi is also highly recommended).
After a fantastic day in Betws-y-Coed, we went on to the coastal town of Porthmadog — where we stayed at another great little campsite and went out for an Indian and a few drinks at Yr Awstralia pub. Two years prior I cycled around Wales for men’s mental health and stopped off at that pub, where I met an old guy named Malcolm. When we visited, guess who was there at the bar? Great to see you again, Malcolm!

Portmeirion & Abersoch
The next morning we enjoyed breakfast in Portmadog with my friend Georgina Tang and her son Alessio before heading to the iconic Portmeirion Village. If you’ve not yet been it’s a must — a stunning destination with colourful buildings akin to the Italian Amalfi Coast. It’s where the classic television programme The Prisoner was filmed and we explored the village, coast and woodland trails.
This was the final day of our mini adventure so we decided to finish at the Llyn peninsula’s popular watersports destination of Abersoch. The Llyn peninsula is home to some stunning beaches and coves and the famous Ty Coch pub — voted 3rd best beach bar in the world. We enjoyed Abersoch beach and a couple of great pubs on our final night before heading home via Llandudno the following day.
