Merseyside has a vibrant electronic music scene, from underground warehouse parties to huge sell-out events that attract some of the best DJs in the world. There’s also an abundance of amazingly talented local DJs and it’s something we like to shout about at La Vida Liverpool. La Vida Liverpool In The Mix is a series of exclusive mixes from some of Merseyside’s best DJs to celebrate our thriving scene and provide you with some delightful sounds for your listening pleasure. This mix is provided by Dogstare & Olaa.

Dogstare & Olaa aka Paul McGuinness and Aleksandra Kotleswka are both currently residing in Liverpool UK, but their musical stories and influences couldn’t be more different before coming together to create Dogstare & Olaa. Olaa was majorly influenced by the dark sounds of minimal and techno whilst living Offenbach, Germany, then Frankfurt. She spent many hours partying on the dance floor of clubs like Robert Johnson where her love of more of a house sound began to grow. It was through this avenue her love of DJing and production first took hold, she then moved to Liverpool and now produces DJs and engineers live sound for local bands.

Paul, now at the tender age of 44, has been in and around Liverpool and the North West DJing and producing for about 25 years. He started his production career back in 2005 and along with Dave Coates and Paul Bugby was signed to Detroit label Wallshaker which was Detroit legend Aaron Carl’s house and techno in-print. They had several releases on vinyl and digital formats before Aaron sadly passed away in 2010. He also produces under the guise Minus Five Wolves again with Dave Coates — they’ve had about 30 releases to date and have just remixed for Canada’s Rennie Foster and his RF label.

Paul & Aleksandra have teamed up to produce and DJ under Dogstare & Olaa and also run their No Monsters Music label and are into the 7th release in 2019. Over the past three years the releases off the label have found their way into DJs boxes and playlists from such artists as Terry Francis, Cristian Valera, Robert Babicz, Robert Owens, Joesph Caprati, Lugio Madonna and been spun on dancefloors in clubs like Circus, Ministry of Sound and DC 10. Magazines like IDJ, Zone Mag and De Bug have also featured and reviewed tracks off the label.

So what’s next for Dogstare & Olaa? Well more music and releases as well some up and coming gigs in Liverpool and around the UK. Over the next few months they are preparing their live act which will consist of Ableton Live, Roland Aria, Maschine and some hardware ass as well as vocals and musicians so watch this space. Check out their exclusive mix for La Vida Liverpool as they deliver a truly unique sound touching on deep house, tech house, techno, progressive and everything in between! Great stuff!
