An immersive art exhibition like no other, Modigliani Opera is simply a must for those interested in art, culture and history and at just £5 it’s a steal. Even for those not particularly interested in the subject matter, the cinema and virtual reality concept brings a whole new dimension to art and it will have you seeing art in a completely different way.

We were greeted and shown to the adapted art gallery in the basement of 26 Bold Street. We first experienced a 30 minute cinematic performance documenting the early 20th Century life of Amedeo Modigliani — with incredible visual effects making us feel as though we were there with him and the characters through his journey.

Through immersive cinema, we came to learn about the trials and tribulations, the highs and the lows, the darkness and the light and the genius and madness of one of art’s most enigmatic figures. From alcohol abuse, womanising and poor health to travelling, strokes of artistic genius and a piece of art that would go on to sell for $152m, it was fascinating to learn about the life of Modigliani.

After the amazing cinema experience, we turned around and listened to talks from 3D images of the important characters in his life — looking at his life and work through their perspectives. We then entered a corridor that pinpointed the key moments of his life and the key moments of history that occurred at the same time.

The 45 minute experience ends with an enthralling virtual reality experience. With VR glasses and headsets on, we became Modigliani himself and spent time with his female acquaintances, painting their portraits, and spent time in Italian and French bars and restaurants. An experience like no other and highly recommended!
