MERSEYSIDE RUNNERS INVITED TO COMPETE IN NEPALESE ULTRA MARATHON!

Fancy challenging yourself in the biggest marathon in Nepal? Immersing yourself in breathtaking scenery at the foothills of the Himalayas as you compete for prize money alongside 1000 Nepalese and international runners? The 5th Karnali Sports Jumla Rara Ultra Marathon (JRUM) is taking place on 13th April 2024 and there’s still time for British runners to get involved!

The epic ultra marathon is one of the most challenging in the world, with steep ascents and descents, but it also offers some of the most spectacular landscape imaginable. The race starts from Jumla Bazaar (2305m) and finishes at the Rara Lake (2990m), cascading alongside the foothills of the Himalayas and through remote villages — offering an unrivalled trail running experience.

On 9th April you will take a long bus journey from Kathmandu to Surkhet and then another from Surkhet to Jumla. Once you have registered you will have time to rest, acclimatise, explore and take a hike to Karnali Technical School in Barudkhana. The big race starts at 6am and following the race you will enjoy lunch at Rara lake finishing line, dinner at Rara and overnight stay.

The last couple of days of your adventure will include overnight stays, meals, rafting, exploring and a big closing ceremony. Those who do well in the race will have the opportunity to compete in other big International Trial Running Association events — leading to further opportunities in the international trial running community.

Southport’s Prakash Shahi, Owner of the award winning Great Himalayas restaurant, said: “It’s a really exciting opportunity for runners. The whole adventure, including race registration, transport, accommodation and food costs around £2,000, with return flights to Nepal variable, and around £4,000 of prize money on offer.
