Here at La Vida Liverpool, we’re huge fans of The Refreshment Rooms and have featured Wirral’s waterside venue a number of times over the last couple of years. In this latest piece we bring you news of their new menu, detailing our visit and why this gem on the banks of the Mersey is still one of the best places to dine in Wirral….

What’s The Refreshment Rooms about?
If you’ve not yet been to The Refreshment Rooms, you’re seriously missing a trick! Situated at the bottom of Bedford Road East and with its own stretch of beach looking over the Mersey, it offers quality food and drink in a prime location. It’s dog friendly and offers a beautiful beer garden to the rear that’s open from April to October.
The iconic pub and restaurant is steeped in history and character, with lots of interesting features to admire, and it has a fantastic reputation. Open 7 days a week (main menu 12-9pm 7 days, breakfasts available at weekends too), it’s all about quality, fresh, home cooked food and super generous portions at a great price.

What’s the new menu about?
The new menu at The Refreshment Rooms keeps some of the best selling favourites on the previous menu, whilst adding a few interesting options such as Miso Ramen Noodles and Baked Creamy Seafood Gnocci. As ever, there’s loads of choice and there’s definitely something for everyone!
For the Over 60s there’s a special menu that offers even better value, where older diners can enjoy 2 courses for £9.95 and 3 courses for £12.95 all day and night from Monday to Wednesday. On Mondays they have Steak Night (a choice of steaks with all the trimmings and a drink for £12) and Spice Madness on Tuesdays (3 courses for £14.95).

Our visit….
We visited to check out the new menu at 8pm on a Saturday night and it was unsurprisingly busy, such is its popularity. That said, the service was spot on as ever — they have a well oiled team there who are always very friendly. We enjoyed a bottle of pinot grigio as we perused the extensive menu of mouth watering dishes.
To start I enjoyed a new dish, Devilled Chicken Wings, and my partner chose Potted Prawns. For our mains I selected the new Korean Style Fillet Of Beef (with noodles) and my dining partner enjoyed the (also new) 8oz Prime Rump Steak — slow braised and delightfully tender. As the photos suggest, generous portions as ever and real quality!

Here at La Vida Liverpool, we love The Refreshment Rooms! For a place that’s off the beaten track to continue to do so well it takes something special. We love their quality, value and beautiful location on the banks of the Mersey and a gorgeous beer garden to the rear. The new menu offers real quality and variety and we highly recommend a visit!
