What’s The Pen Factory about?

Replacing the old Everyman Bistro on Hope Street, The Pen Factory has been doing great things these past few years. Created by culinary entrepreneur Paddy Byrne, its name is a nod to the Lang Pen Company who operated there in the late 1800s. It’s a great place to eat or drink and there are regular events such as live jazz and Tap Takeover events.

The Pen Factory is loved for its relaxed informal atmosphere and its contemporary industrial style, tucked away below the hustle and bustle of Hope Street and with a beautiful garden and terrace. Included in the Hardens restaurant guide three years running along with the CAMRA Good Beer Guide and a mention in the BBC Good Food Guide, it’s a highly respected venue that receives top reviews.

We had a chat with General Manager Sam Harrison who told us: “Our small plates menu changes seasonally and we’re all about quality and variety. We specialised in British and European cuisine and source the best ingredients from around the world and, where possible, from the owner’s allotment — keeping it as fresh as possible from ground to plate.”He continued: “A lot of time, effort and care goes into creating each seasonal menu and this one is very special indeed — with a great selection of quality dishes and something for everyone. It may have that fine dining feel and presentation but we’re a very relaxed social hub and a great meeting place. We’re dog friendly too!”
