Top chefs Dean Griffiths and Andy Pilling have joined forces to offer quality home cooked food and it’s been going down a storm since being introduced. With many years of experience between them, Dean as a top chef at The Wheatsheaf and Andy as Manager of The Queens in New Brighton, the dynamic duo have brought to the table small plates, pub classics, burgers and sensational Sunday roasts!

There’s a 3 for £16 offer on small plates such as wings, pigs in blankets, scampi bits and goats cheese bon bons. There’s a wide selection of creative burgers and pub classics such as fish and chips, gammon and steaks, meanwhile the Sunday roasts have been flying out! With 3 courses available for just £18.99, it’s really good value! The kitchen is soon to have a revamp and there’s be a new menu launch in April.

Landlord Steve Brady said: “I’m delighted that we’ve won CAMRA’s Wirral Pub Of The Year for 2024. I’m really proud of the many awards we’ve won, including the regional CAMRA awards and being one of their best pubs in the country. Our pub has so much character and is ideally located on the banks of the Mersey but we can’t just rely on that — we need to be constantly improving.”
He continued: “I started out as Head Barman in 1998 and became landlord in 2012. I’ve seen the pub go through so many changes such as different breweries, price and energy cost increases, recessions, lockdowns and even a fire but it’s stood the test of time. It was built in 1759 and has so much history — I’ve kept its character but have made ongoing improvements and adapted with the times.”

Steve’s passion for The Magazine Hotel has seen him retain its charm whilst taking it into the 21st Century and he has recently celebrated 25 years at the pub — a fantastic achievement given how tough the industry is. His 25th year there is set to be a wonderful success — with another award to add to 3 regional awards from 2021 to 2022, Wirral community pub 2023 and many others.

In addition to the quality food being served, the gorgeous beer garden has been spruced up ready for the warmer weather. With its new makeover, it will host outdoor bbqs in the summer and a huge beer and cider festival from 4th July to 7th July, not forgetting there’s still the regular folk nights on Tuesdays and live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

Steve summarised: “Winning the award is a great start to the year and we’re looking forward to a great summer. The food has proven to be really popular and the beer garden is going to be perfect for al fresco dining during the summer months, as well as bbqs. I’m really looking forward to the beer and cider festival on the first weekend of July too — exciting times!”
