Las Vegas real estate agent, Shawna Weng of The Thomas Group, has partnered with Refuge For Women to help provide housing for women who have escaped human trafficking or sexual exploitation. Shawna will be pledging a percentage of her real estate deals to the charity’s cause and The Thomas Group, known as ‘the ethical agents’, will match each donation.
Investment Specialist Shawna Weng is a hardworking number cruncher who secures big real estate deals for property investors. Working for The Thomas Group, a Top 2% real estate firm renowned for their good practise and charity ethos, she has quite possibly secured her most important deal yet — a deal that will see abused women benefit from her real estate work.
Ethical agents The Thomas Group have charity partners and donate a percentage of each real estate deal to them. This particular partnership has come about on the back of Shawna witnessing women in bad situations during her previous role in Sin City’s nightlife scene — with prostitution and exploitation commonplace.
Shawna explained: “I graduated from UC Santa Barbara, got a Double Major in Economy and Psychology and a Masters in Business. I came to Vegas to set up my nightclub promotion and concierge business here — it was a very fast paced and fun line of work although I saw the dark side of Vegas and the women of the night who were in bad situations.”
She continued: “Whilst the business was fun, Covid put an end to it so during lockdowns I gained my real estate license. As a property investor myself, I had a strong interest in this profession so to now help other property investors find real estate is a great role for me. When I joined The Thomas Group and learned about their charity ethos, I thought about the women I’d see on the streets and decided to help.”
Bringing The Thomas Group and Refuge For Women together, Shawna will be helping women one real estate deal at a time. Donations from each deal will contribute towards the charity’s crucial work providing women with up to twelve months of safe housing free of charge, with around the clock care as they progress through evidence-based, trauma-informed programming.
Shawna said: “Refuge For Women do such amazing work and change women’s lives. There are so many women on our streets who have been victims of human trafficking, sexual exploitation and abuse. It’s a great honor for me to be utilising my role at The Thomas Group to help support the charity’s work helping these women — giving them a home and a new life.”
