Immie Smith, at just 17 years old, has already made a significant impact on the music scene, using her talent and overcoming adversities to inspire others. Her journey into music began after a devastating loss, three years ago. When she lost her older brother, Kyle, at only age 19 to cancer.
During that difficult time, Immie struggled to cope with her grief and sought ways to distract herself. To channel her emotions, Immie taught herself to play the guitar, and didn’t stop there; she expanded her skills to bass, piano, and violin. Her dedication led her to take music classes in high school and have a nomination at EitC (Everton In The Community).

On her 17th birthday, Immie recorded her song at Vulcan studios and later released her song “Not My Turn” on Spotify. She became involved with Primal Live, where she learned about the music industry, ticket sales, and the importance of community.
Immie found joy in connecting with others through music, and her journey took a positive turn when she reached the semi-finals of a competition, proving that something beautiful could emerge from her struggles. Immie said “My music is not going to help everyone, but for the people it does help, it’s a crutch to lean on”.

However, she has had to endure some major health challenges. In December, Immie was diagnosed with POTS and SND, which have caused her to experience fainting spells and seizures. She became wheelchair-bound but is gradually gaining the ability to walk again, step by step. Throughout these trials, music has been her anchor, providing her with an outlet for expression.
Immie’s inspiration is Amy Winehouse. Immie said: “Amy’s music was exceptional and her ability to express her feelings, whilst connecting with others was impeccable”. For Immie, songwriting is a powerful way to articulate her feelings and share her journey with the world.

Immie said: “Song writing gives me a way to express how I am feeling, without directly talking about it. It lets other people interpret the songs in their own way”. She also wrote a heartfelt verse in “Always at Home for Christmas,” which was released by Primal Live and had coverage from NME, national newspapers and BBC North West Tonight. She contributed her vocals and violin to the track.
Immie shared some advice for upcoming artists in “people want to hear your abilities and if you know you have that skill, show it off. You deserve to be happy”. This is just the beginning of her beautiful journey. She has more music lined up, ready to release this year.
