Social values youth football club, New Brighton Victoria FC, have joined forces with Heswall FC to host a very special evening with Everton legend Peter Reid in aid of Wirral brain tumour sufferer Chris Mountford. The fascinating night of football nostalgia is taking place at The Venue By White in Moreton on Saturday 3rd February from 7pm.

On the night, football fans will be treated to a talk and Q&A with the charismatic Peter Reid, as he shares stories and insights from throughout his career. The event will be hosted and compered by Everton stadium announcer Graeme White and will also feature live music from Chloe Louise and a huge raffle and auction — with top football prizes.

The night will raise money for Chris Mountford and his family, following the 37-year-old electrician’s recent diagnosis of a brain tumour. Due to pre-existing conditions, the self-employed father of three has been unable to insure himself against this type of illness — therefore a Crowdfunder has been set up to help support him and his family during this difficult time.
The Crowdfunder has so far raised in excess of £8,000 and the Evening With Peter Reid aims to raise even more to keep the family afloat, so that they don’t have to sell their house. The night promises to be an enthralling evening of football related anecdotes, nostalgia and entertainment, whilst helping a family in their darkest hour of need.

The idea of the event came about during a charity football tournament organised by social values football club, New Brighton Victoria FC. The youth football club was founded in May 2023, with the aim of instilling social values into children, and the charity tournament was one of their many community initiatives. It was this tournament that led to the club’s Chris Mountford fundraising event.

New Brighton Victoria FC’s Chairman Chris Guy explained: “As a club our ethos is to be community driven and we actively fundraise for local charities and causes. We hosted the U10s tournament in November and raised over £1,100 for Young Lives vs Cancer and CICRA (Children with Crohns & Colitis) but during the tournament we learnt that an opposing player’s father had been diagnosed with a brain tumour.”

True to its community values, New Brighton Victoria FC have joined forces with Chris Mountford’s son’s team, Heswall FC, to host the Evening With Peter Reid event for Chris and his family. At best, the 37-year-old won’t be able to work for a year, making things extremely difficult for him, his wife and three children, so the event could be a game changer to them for the coming months.

Chris Guy said: “I am in awe of Chris’ determination to get through this and his positive attitude. It’s amazing that nearly 300 people have donated to his JustGiving page and I am excited for the event we have set up on Saturday 3rd February 2024. We will continue to support Chris through his recovery and even through the tragic circumstances, I’ve made a friend for life”.
Meanwhile, Chris Mountford said: “I would love nothing more than to be a part of grassroots football and make any difference I can. I’m going to have a lot of time on my hands, so willing to help out in any way I can. Unsure exactly how, but I’m excited to be part of something and make a massive difference for our local grassroots football.”

The appeal for Chris Mountford has received support from the likes of Jamie Carragher and Chris Kirkland, thanks to the awareness raised by New Brighton Victoria FC. This latest work is another triumph for the club, who are revolutionising football at youth level — with community initiatives, mental health and wellbeing programmes, a code of conduct and more to help develop young people.
