COLOURFUL COCKTAILS & QUALITY CUISINE AT THE SMUGGLER’S COVE!

We recently checked out one of Liverpool’s highest rated restaurant’s, The Smuggler’s Cove. The Albert Dock eatery and bar has an excellent reputation for quality cuisine and colourful cocktails, with rustic decor and plenty of character, and we visited on a Monday evening to see what all the fuss is about.

Despite it being a Monday, The Smuggler’s Cove had a buzzing atmosphere. We were shown to our window seat and took some time to admire the interesting decor and views out to the dock before perusing their refined yet diverse menu — notably the cocktails!

Our first choice of cocktail, as recommended the Restaurant Manager, Chris, was the Lychee and Elderflower Daiquiri — a gorgeous, refreshing concoction and one of their most popular masterpieces. We followed this up with a Strawberry Colada — Bacardi Carta Blanca, Bounty Coconut, coconut and strawberry purèes, strawberry syrup, pineapple and lime juices. Another delightful creation!

From start to finish, our experience was made very special by the exceptional service — Chris and his team are so attentive and friendly and a credit to the company (The World Trading Company who own The Smuggler’s Cove are one of the Top 100 to work for in the UK). We were never made to wait for long and after our cocktails we decided what food to order from the mouth watering menu.

For our starters, my dining partner Paula had Baked Camembert and I had Crunchy Pork Crackling with chilli jam — nice simple dishes and very well presented. For our mains, we both opted for their signature Hanging Kebabs — with Paula choosing the salt and pepper pork belling with bang bang sauce and the chicken and chorizo option for me.

The Smuggler’s Cove Hanging Kebabs are such a novelty and very favoursome but if you fancy something else their refined menu has some great options for all. From sharing boards to lamb and mint pie and from steak to vegan and veggie options, there’s something for everyone and judging by the food coming out to other tables it’s all top notch quality.

To complete our dining experience we just about had enough room for dessert — the Dark Chocolate & Peanut Butter Pot and the Sticky Toffee Pudding. We also had another couple of cocktails — this both enjoying a Smuggler’s Mai Tai. A truly delightful way to end the evening and as with all our food and drink that night, very well presented and served with a smile.
