There’s also an abundance of amazingly talented local DJs and it’s something we like to shout about at La Vida Liverpool. La Vida Liverpool In The Mix is a series of exclusive mixes from some of Merseyside’s best DJs to celebrate our thriving scene and provide you with some delightful sounds for your listening pleasure. This mix is provided by Luben.
Whether it’s balearic funk or techno and prog, over the years Luben has long exercised his passion for all styles of music close to his heart — an avid music collector, he has a place, time and scenario for them all. Only a quick glance over the last few years is enough to demonstrate this to its entirety. Through his radio show, The Electronic Melody Sessions (2009-18), he’s promoted everything from the latest house music artists and upcoming DJs such as Bicep and he’s worked with DJ Collective Faciendo alongside Desyn Masiello & Rowan Blades.
He’s contributed towards a Transitions showcase for John Digweed (back in 2012) and he’s always promoted the best possible music out there — sometimes new and sometimes overlooked. In more recent years, Luben has found an outlet for the lighter sounds in his music collection with residencies such as Super Funkin Sundays (2015) @ The Basement, a spin off from The Electronic Melody Sessions Show, with fellow resident DJs Underlake, Adam B & Dave Heath sourcing some of the best balearic funk, house, soul and disco — both rare, edited and new.
This venture subsequently led on to the creation of Rotation, a DJ Collective consisting of Luben, Dave Heath and Desa Basshead. Over the last couple of years, the trio have hosted a string of open air events between Liverpool and Wirral — playing all manner of sunshine grooves from balearic funk to underground disco and house as well as joining the Melodic Distraction DJ Roster to showcase a live monthly radio show which can be seen/heard every second Sunday to date. No matter what falls out of Luben’s musical sleeve, it always has that Luben stamp of influence, experience and knowledge that can only be found from years of dedication to the craft, style and complete selfishness when crate digging.
