LVL: So, Revo, how has it been looking for EVOL so far this year? A good start to the year for EVOL gigs?
REVO: It’s looking good, we have our first Arena show with Red Rum Club which is doing really well, we’ve just announced The Mysterines for the Olympia and have a few more things to come. Currently we’re working on programming the live music for the newly reopened and refurbished Arts Club in Liverpool and the shows are coming together, upcoming we have Folly Group, Ist Ist, Demob Happy, CVC, and The Staves amongst others. Some big changes at the venue and all for the better since it closed a few years back.

LVL: What are the highlight gigs for EVOL in 2024?
REVO: There’s a few more to come, quite a few up our sleeve that we can’t announce just yet but to have a show at the Arena and the Olympia is definitely a highlight plus everything we’ve mentioned at the Arts Club and of course FestEvol which should be special.

LVL: This first instalment of FESTEVOL — what’s it all about and what can we expect on 30th March?
REVO: It’s a good old fashioned all-dayer or Leo Sayer as I like to joke at the Arts Club, some of the brightest up and coming guest bands from around the UK mixed with some of the best from Merseyside and then we flip-flop across two rooms from 3pm until 10pm so everyone can move about and watch all 12 artists playing. A bit of a live music marathon specially weaved for your enjoyment and a nice platform for the local groups to step on.

LVL: Peace is a pretty exciting headliner to announce hey?
REVO: Yeah, overjoyed to be reunited with Peace as we did some special shows a few years back, the Kazimier and O2 being two incredible nights, the band have a new record and it’s just nice to be able to have them headline as they’ll play a classic set. Pretty pumped for the whole line up.

LVL: What can you say about all the other acts in this extravaganza? Any ones you’re particularly excited about on the day?
REVO: Well you can watch all twelve artists playing and come to your own conclusions but 86TVs are a new group formed from former members of The Maccabees and The Noisettes and have just sold out their UK tour, Overpass are a fantastic new group, with a debut record and a sell out UK tour under their belts.
Manchester’s female lead punk-rock group Witch Fever are a ferocious unit ons stage and we’re delighted to have enticed Hooton Tennis Club back out of retirement and they’re writing new music so excited to see their older stuff and the new stuff. Casino sold out their Hangar34 headline for us last October and are a sublime group with a different style to everyone else but all the groups are worth your time, particularly looking forward to Leeds’s Van Houten and Slate from Cardiff.

LVL: There’s so much exciting talent emerging from Merseyside — do you think we’re in the midst of one of the most promising eras of local music?
REVO: I think for the groups here now there probably hasn’t been a better time since the early Eighties, so many bands are signed and are forging careers, Red Rum Club dropping their fourth album Western Approaches and The Mysterines about to release the follow up to their debut are huge signs of life, everything seems to be working.
I could name 30 groups that have deals and have a chance at a long term career as serious musicians and it’s nice to see national radio and press getting behind them. Hoping this continues and doesn’t fade, I can remember when no labels were interested in what’s happening here so it’s a good fruitful time.

LVL: EVOL has been a big part of nurturing local talent for over 20 years now — who are your favourite artists and bands you’ve worked with?
REVO: Aye, we’ve put in the graft on many levels and have produced a lot of shows. I won’t shy away from Red Rum Club and The Mysterines we’ve been working with them from the ground up for a number of years and there’s plenty of amazing new acts to discover.
The Dream Machine have been coming along nicely and we’re working with Ambedo Blue at the moment and they’ve got EP’s to come and plenty of ideas. I still have a soft spot for Strange Collective and I’ve been enjoying Dog Sport of late.

LVL: And finally — who would you most like to book for a future EVOL event? Any artists or bands on your ultimate wish list?
REVO: Public Enemy — that would be the ultimate for us!
