PLEASE HELP! ICONIC WIRRAL THEATRE NEEDS SAVING!

0

Wirral’s iconic theatre, The Gladstone Theatre, is at risk of closure and needs your help! The Port Sunlight venue is a non for profit charitable organisation that receives no regular public funding, relying upon ticket sales and donations in order to survive, and this year’s coronavirus crisis has hit them hard — to the point of threatening their existence.

Founded in 1888 by William Hesketh Lever, The Gladstone Theatre has huge cultural significance. The first principle building officially opened in the heart of Port Sunlight, it has a rich history and hosts a vibrant programme of musicals, plays, comedy, local operatic and musical societies, youth groups, dance, classes and more.

The theatre plays an important role at the centre of the community, with weddings, funerals, conferences, business AGMs, coffee mornings, cinema clubs and fairs taking place throughout the year and it has strong links with local schools. If the theatre closes it will affect many people and will have a significant impact on the local economy.

Despite making a strong application, the theatre has been unsuccessful in applying for the Culture Recovery Grant from the Government and as such needs to raise £50,000 in order to survive during the next 6 months and become Covid safe. At the time of writing, the campaign has raised just over £12,000 so any help from as many people as possible is crucial. Please donate if you can!
