West Kirby restaurant and Wirral CIC, Break The Mould, have launched a beautiful project for local children. It’s All Good In The Hood offers a free party for local children who have overcome adversities, done good deeds or simply been little stars and the first event on 30th August was a huge success!

The wonderful collaboration brought on board R & J travel to transport the children, DJ Josh Morgan to provide music and games, Positivity Club to play games geared around mental health. The children enjoyed food, drink, fun and games and also received a princess visit from Wish Upon A Party.

Over 20 children attended the event — each with their own story. Break The Mould CIC, who offer sport, activities and education for local children, received nominations for children who deserved a party and the happy little stars had the time of their life at the first event.

One of the attendees was Lewis — an incredible young teenager who was born prematurely with complications, placed in foster care and lost his mother. He never got to meet his mother but despite a very challenging upbringing has grown into a wonderful young man who is doing great at school.

Another child in attendance was Albie who would have two hour meltdowns that involved self harm and self abuse. He was investigated for ADHD, autism with a PDA profile, sensory and co-ordination disabilities. His family fought for extra care and he was eventually placed at a specialist school in West Kirby where he is now excelling.

One of the other amazing little stars at the party was 5-year-old Callum Fox from Willaston. Callum became big brother to Aaron who was born with a rare, life limiting genetic condition. Callum has been very resilient and has shown lots of love and care towards his little brother whilst still doing well at school and not letting the difficult family situation deter him.

Kris Leigh from Break The Mould CIC said: “It’s been so heart warming to celebrate these amazing children and throw them a fantastic party — they truly deserve it! Break The Mould CIC is all about bridging the gap and that’s exactly what we’ve done here — put on something special for children who deserve to be recognised!”

Richard Fergie, owner of The Good Hood, said: “It’s been an incredible team effort and it was so nice to see all the children having a great time! From R & J Travel who provided the transport to all the children’s entertainers and the restaurant staff, everyone was amazing and it was an honour to host this lovely event.”

DJ and children’s entertainer at the event, Josh Morgan, knows what it’s like to overcome adversity. He hit the headlines earlier this year after setting up a successful DJ and entertainment business having overcome agoraphobia and social anxiety as a teenager.

Josh said: “I love putting on parties for children but this was extra special as some of them have been through some very difficult times. It was great to work with Jess from Positivity Club whose games around mental health and emotions were fantastic and also Wish Upon A Party — the princess visit was brilliant!”

In addition to the great food and drink, fun and games and a princess visit, the children received party bags that included Positivity Club goodies and a golden ticket to bring their family back to The Good Hood. After such a successful first summer holiday event, there will be future events for more lucky children in the Christmas and Easter holidays too.

Kris from Break The Mould CIC summarized: “The event couldn’t have gone better and it was amazing to see their happy faces! Break The Mould offers summer camps, weekend activities and education for children but this was something really special to do. It was great to collaborate with so many great people on the project and we’re looking forward to future events.”

Richard Fergie from The Good Hood summarized: “I used to own the Monterray Jack’s chain in Scotland and always made sure we were giving back. I’ve quit that life for a West Kirby independent but I wanted to keep the same ethos. My partner Ellie and I have just had a baby so we thought that giving back to children would be most appropriate.”
