With expertise in the mind, emotions and neuroscience, Julie gained a Masters in Mindfulness in 2019 after reaching a crossroads in her life. Amazed by the impact that her new knowledge and tools had on her own life, she quit her job in I.T and created Just Breathe in 2020 — with the aim of giving others the tools to lead calmer, less stressful lives.
Julie said: “We spend a good deal of our energy focusing on our external world, trying to solve situations we cannot control. When we look within, we’re able to work out what we truly need and that is where the magic happens. This is where mindfulness can take us.”

Speaking of her journey, Julie explained: “As a child I suffered a great deal of bullying at school. Now that I have an understanding of neuro-science, I can see how that shaped my life. I studied hard to ‘prove them wrong’ and gained degrees however I became an unhappy workaholic in I.T. I thought it was just stress but on reflection, I probably had underlying anxiety amongst other things.”

Julie continued: “I first began meditating by accident and didn’t really know what I was doing. I then came across the mindfulness-based stress reduction course at Bangor University. It was during this course that I experienced my first Eureka moment. After following a body scan practice I noticed that my busy mind had become completely calm and stopped churning thoughts.”
“It was such a profound experience that I wanted to learn more, so I enrolled on a Mindfulness Masters programme at Aberdeen University. What I learned about the mind, emotions and neuroscience changed my life so I qualified as a teacher with the Mindfulness Association.”

With her new found knowledge and tools, Julie founded Just Breathe and set out to help others control their minds and live a calmer, more balanced life. The online courses she’s created have been popular for a wide range of people attracting international clients including men who don’t want a face to face discussion but prefer to follow the course at home in their own time.
